Yup same thing here...25% more than what you can purchase it for online.
Well....I thought that way for about 2 minutes. Then I said to myself...."what if BB went HD DUD exclusive"....and so then i say....when your spending $20....why is $25 too much?

Now, each HDDVD title has it own row and honestly it looks pathetic. BR on the other had is completely trashed. The titles are suppose to be in order A to Z, but they have completely mixed up and no order at all!

I know that CC had committed to supporting HDDVD not long ago, but their section looks like a joke! I asked the clerk who approached me to ask if I needed help (the place was empty, maybe 4 customers in the building) and I told him (in a nice way) what a mess the BR section was. I would have to go thru each row and try to find a title I wanted, but even then, it was so messed up I most likely could not find what I was looking for. He said he was sorry for the mess, blamed it on someone doing it on purpose as they had the complaint before!

Our best buy on the other hand is organized and clean and a even split in the sections and BR does have their other display up as well. Just a better shopping experience over all and you have customers always in the store, buying product.

Sorry for the rant!
Contact the CC District Offices in your region and give them the store location and or store number all tell them about your experience in the store.

This will put them in their place.

Geez, I guess looking at HD DVDs is like walking into an adult bookstore.

I was at Fry's a couple of weeks ago browsing their blu section and saw another guy with a bunch of HD-DVDs in his hand browsing the hd-dvd section. I actually felt like slapping him and giving him a lecture on his mistake of choosing the wrong format to side with. But my mother thought me respect and I left him alone.

And yeah circuit city is a joke, I frankly do not see a reason for that company to exist. They have the worst sales people and don't even have lower prices to compensate. Even Wall Street agrees take a look at this chart:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=CC&t=6m&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=

Most of the time I shop at amazon, buy.com or even half.com. If you can avoid the sales tax and shipping its a great deal.

I prefer BB to CC, but as of late, I have found that I really don't care either way, except for the fact that I am used to BB's setup now and when I walk into a CC I feel lost.
My only problem with CC is this uncanny ability for associates to try to help me when I don't want to be helped.

And for associates to be nowhere to be found when I do in fact need help.

That and it shouldn't take me an hour to get my online order resolved.

I have been itching to mention this exact phenomenon and thought this was my chance to chime in -- but then noticed you are from Seattle. We might be looking at the same store.

I live in Seattle but work in Redmond. The nearest CC did indeed just recently (recently!) add a 50% bump in shelf space to the HD-DVD side. And it looks ridiculous. The Blu-ray side is stacked three or four titles deep in each slot. You have to paw through each shelf like a friggen raccoon to find what might be lurking underneath. There simply are too many titles available for the limited space. The HD-DVD side, on the other hand, has a spot for each title as well as big gaping holes where they've got nothing to show but bare shelf.

Honestly, it's the most counter-intuitive bit of shelf space allocation I've seen in a long time, and there is no reason for it. Unless of course, you factor in that there is a software company based in Redmond that you may have heard of. It starts with "M", and they shop too.

Who really cares...CC is getting KILLED by BBY ever since its national expantion. Coupled with the success of Frys and other such super stores, it is looking real bad for CC.

I worked for 2 of biggest volume Circuit City and Best Buy stores in Soth Florida.
Circuit City does not organize movies well where as my Best Buy it is very organized (other than the casual customer wrong place-back).

I do agree though that the prices are absurd. Even with my employee discount it is only about $5 off. I'd rather buy my blurays at Amazon, Ebay, or gamestop. I got Fantastic Four used for $17.99 (it's $34.99 new @ BB).

Yeah the CC I used to go to is a joke. There is hardly anyone that goes there anymore. My last visit was a quick one, I saw how horrible the BD section looked and just walked out. They have become a joke to me. For me, it's either Best Buy, Fry's or the Wal-Mart I work at(that discount does come in handy sometimes). We used to have a great little store called Laser's Edge. They closed their retail store and now just operate out of a wherehouse. I miss going there.

Cool which store supports which format

Does BB support BD or HD-DVD? BB pretty much has an even split of the amount of BD and HD-DVD. By the appearance of CC, it seems that have a little more BD but that's just me. I'm personally a BB fan because every time I go in CC, the assciates are clueless and BB sounds very confident in their answers and products. I purchased a regular DVD burner when they first came out and it was a piece of crap. I recently bought a new one from BB because my other crapped out and it works beautifully.

Fry's is my favorite, but Best Buy out of the two since they match amazon.com prices. Circuit City will beat print ads which is nice too.

It doesn't work beautifully because you bought it from Best Buy considering they don't make it.

I haven't given Circus City any business since they tried pushing that ridiculous DivX DVD format several years' back. It would just figure that they would start to favor HD-DUD over Blu-ray.

I wandered through one a few months ago (just looking, not shopping!) and was aghast at how messy and disorganized it was. The home theater rooms were jokes, one with a large plasma playing an over-stretched Pirates DVD and the projector room in complete disarray.

After trying to speak with several of the salesmen and finding them to be complete idiots, there was one saving grace in the form of a little redheaded sales girl who actually knew what the hell she was talking about. She was actually knowledgeable about the details of the equipment she was selling, and also admitted to being a Blu-ray fan and owner of a PS3. It was refreshing, but not enough to make me want to shop there ever again.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Circus City going the way of Chump USA.

Default A Circuit City experience -

Although I, myself, also much prefer the Best Buy shoppinbg experience - I would like to relate an experience which COMPLETELY impressed me at Circuit City. About 5 years ago, I purchased a Panasonic DVD recorder (with an internl hard drive) for about $575 (I know- expensive) - since the 3 yr maintenance plan was only $59.95 - I thought - "why not". After using this piece of equipment for about 2 1/2 years - having made literally hundreds of DVDs, it started malfunctioning a bit. I brought it in with a full explanation of what it was (or should I say "was not") doing. They took it in for repair and could not alleviate the problems. Since thismodel was no longer being made and they had nothing comparable, they completely refunded EVERY PENNY of the purchase price, including tax. On top of that, they also reimbursed me for the unused portion of the $59.95 maintenance contract! I was completely delighted! As I said earlier, shopping at Best Buy is a far better shopping environment, however, I will never forget this experience at Circuit City.

BEST BUY is a very last resort for us.

Several years ago I applied for a BEST BUY credit card knowing I have sterling credit and they denied my app.

I went over to CC where I should have been all along and applied for their card and was approved (as I should have been) on the spot.

CC in my area are large, always seemed to be stocked with what I need and are close to my home.

And I don't really care about the knowledge of the staff at either store. I always walk in well informed and all I need to know is where the item is that I am looking for.

Screw BB.

If you have sterling credit why would you want a CC or BB credit card?? aren't they rediculously high interest? You'd be better off with a regular low interest credit card no? Or a line of credit from the bank (usually get prime rate on those if you have good credit).

Best Buy for me. I like their rewards programs and they price match. I know CC price matches do, but do they have some sort of reward program too? Also, CC's normal prices for movies are always high.

My BB has a much better BD selection compared to CC. However, I prefer buying my electonics from CC because the store manager always hooks me up with great deals and never questions me on price matching.

I had a terrible experiance at best buy, where an employee tried to convince me that sony backs up HDDVD. ever since that time, I have never set foot in best buy. however, circuit city, been great and the one by my home, has BD discs very well organized and stacked together in one section. while HDDVD is scattered in the DVD section.

Thats quite a Best Buy out there in Murrietta, they have a musical instrument sections, Mag Hi fi...the store just looks like a circus compared to most BB's.

I live in vista and work at the Oceanside store, we are split even, but sales heavily favor Blu-ray. Plus if you add in the Blu-ray seld, and all the end caps, Blu-ray has a much more dominating presence. my mom lives about a mile from the Murrietta BB.

I actually work at Circuit City and we are all Blu-Ray supporters there. In our demo room we have a Blu-Ray player(forgot which model) hooked up to the Sony XBR4 and it just looks beutiful and there are two other blu-rays hooked up next to it on another LCD and a DLP(again, forgot which models). We only have two HDDVD players on display. One player is right next to one of the new Samsung 120htz tv's playing xmen and it just puts the Toshiba player and tv to shame. i do agree that our sections for the discs are really messed up though. they are both split down the middle evenly and both are very messy. I'm actually in the process of reorganizing both sections(giving more attention to the blu section obviously). it wasn't originally done that way, it's just some customers don't bother putting things back in the place they got them. Since DVD is more of a priority(unfortunatly) we have to keep the DVD section organized all the time so the HD media is secondary. I and everyone else in the store have been supporting Blu and you can be sure we wont go down without a fight this holiday season. This is going to be a Blu Bloody Christmas. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA!!!

"end of line......"
