I'm very happy with my Japanese BD release of Equilibrium...ahem Rebellion. You can't argue with the OAR and excellent PQ/AQ of that release. I've even seen the Japanese blu on sale every so often for approximately $30US. I have a strong feeling that the Echo Bridge version will just be a carbon copy of the Canadian Alliance release. I guess we'll all have to wait a month and see...

...though...on amazon.com it does state that the Echo Bridge version is the incorrect AR.

Let's hope for a good transfer, because it's out there. The PQ/AQ is remarkable and is one of the best that I've ever seen as it puts many movies with far higher budgets to shame. The Japanese release by Sony is simply stellar and I hope those of you who purchase the US release will get the same transfer. At the least, let's hope it's OAR.

There is a Dutch OAR/lossless release that looks to be the same transfer as the Japanese one, but it's just a tad softer as it's compressed onto a BD25. On the positive side, it's probably cheaper.

I paid $50 for the Japanese release some time ago- if it's going for $30 I'd look to grab it if the US release sucks.

Amazon 90% of the time never lists the correct technical specs for a Blu-ray release. Why you think this release is different is beyond me...

Went ahead and preordered it at the cheap price. I just want this on Blu-ray in any shape. If the transfer isn't as good, I can live with it for now.

I actually got the Candian version last year and wondering how would this compare to the Alliance one.

the Alliance release may not be in its OAR, but the transfer and the audio are damn good imo. As others have stated, if this one is in its OAR with the same specs, I'll double dip, if not, oh well, I'm satisfied.

I only stated what amazon is saying...not that their word is final or correct. It'd be great if Echo Bridge releases a stellar disc...Just many people don't have much faith in the company...including myself...but, we shall see. Stranger things have happened.

i agree, the alliance transfer works for me at this point. OAR doesnt particuarily bother me in this case. i know i know, everyone can start bashing me now, but hey to each their own. i mean, it got a 4.4 out of 5 review bt 7 users on this site, all saying how good the av/pq is.

Hey man, to each their own...You shouldn't get bashed because of your own personal preference. We all have our own, eh?

I would just like to say though...As someone who has seen both the Alliance (Canada) and the Sony (Japan) BD's of Equilibrium...leaving AR alone, I still feel the PQ of the Japanese blu to be better...as well as being a more complete package (extras), if you care about that kind of thing.

So if you care about OAR, a slightly better presentation, and some extras...Those people should feel free to buy the Japanese version. You could get it for $60 or wait until you see a sale and get it for $30, like I did.

Either way, Equilibrium is a great movie!

Placed my pre-order for it last night since it is priced nicely. If early reviews come in and the quality sucks, I'll cancel. There are quality transfers out there for this (not taking into account aspect ratio), so there's little excuse.

Someone gave the me the Alliance release as a gift last year. If the new release is better then I will upgrade, otherwise the Alliance release is pretty nice despite its "issues"

Well...I hear ya...but the correct aspect ratio is critical, IMO. I rememnber renting this on HDDVD and it looked great but was the wrong AR.

Hopefully this new release is correct.

Oh, I can't wait! Probably the only thing I watch over again on dvd. having a Blu-ray would make that a more frequent watch.

I own the Japanese HD DVD and the AR is correct as it is in 2.35:1. Are you referring to an HD DVD that was released in another region?

The Canadian version is the Alliance release.

Anyone know whether the Alliance release was cropped or opened up for blu-ray?
