There were a few scenes with some decent depth to them in the caves but other than that pretty bland in my opinion. Definately not top 5 material sad to say. I was excited since they plastered Cameron's name all over it and said it was conceptualized in 3d etc...but personally I wasn't seeing too much quality 3d here. |

In the end, I thought the 3D was mostly well done.
Particularly, in the well lit-scenes I felt like peoples faces were really 3D, ie rounded and almost tangible. I thought the exteriors were beautiful. Some of the distance shots underground had great scope to them... That being said the (understandably and story serving) not well lit underwater scenes had no pop or depth to them. "that scene" in Piranha worked much better as far as underwater scenes. |

I am surprised at the bad press this movie gets. Sure it's no blockbuster, and does start a bit slow, but the visuals are great, and you can't help but get a sense of feeling like you are trapped in the caves and underwater yourself. 3D was enjoyable, and thought the story and acting was well done. This one one of only a few 3D titles that I have watched more than once already. I give it a thumbs up!

I feel it is an underrated movie because it had no stars, but IMO it is the one with the best 3D because it serves very well for what is happening. It doesnt pop up as much, but it is immersive, and like someone said above, you feel trapped in the action.
The only thing I hated from the disc set was that the commentary was on the 2D BD... I would have loved to be able to see the film in 3D and listen to the commentary! |

From everything i have heard or read about the movie the story was ok and the 3d was average. I ended up borrowing this from a friend with very low expectations of it but i was surprised the story was good and the acting was good for the most part. I felt bad for the characters knowing it was based off a true story and i am pretty sure that was the directors intention so that was successful to me. The 3d was no Avatar but it was good imo because it was very immersive and had some great depth like others have said atleast on my Panny. I wish i could've bought for this for 20 at bb like someone else did but mines wants 45 for it and amz 25 is a tad high for me right now but once i can find it for 20 shipped regardless if it is here on trade forum, ebay, amzn marktet or amz then it will be mines.

Yeah, you're right. I think most of the bigger movies they have for around $40. Despicable me is still at $44. I think I'm just going to start ordering them online. I saw Amazon had a lot of them for around $25. And hopefully free shipping too.

Just watched Sanctum in 3D.
The cinematography and musical score were nice. The movie itself was a bit of a mess. They had some good ideas to make a gut-wrenching, claustrophobic cave-disaster movie but had trouble with their execution. Some of the acting is weak, and most of the major events aren't very believable. It's a good thing the movie has strong 3D to hold it up. Sanctum does an excellent job of maintaining stereoscopic roundness. 90% of scenes have very strong parallax on par with Avatar, Hugo, Journey, and Step Up 3D. Some of the vistas are literally breathtaking, and they really succeeded at making you feel like you are crawling, climbing, and swimming through the caves. You experience the emotions with the characters--wonderment, fear, and claustrophobia (Warning: There is some intentionally disturbing death imagery.). The stereography is excellent. There are no 2D dialogue scenes and no sabotaging non-action scenes. The movie uses a lot of negative parallax in natural ways that make sense for the story and help immerse the viewer. The only trick that falls flat is pitch black darkness. It is necessary for the story, but kind of ruins the suspense when the 3D goes away and just leaves you staring at a TV screen. In no way did this kill the experience, however. In conclusion, some reviewers have seriously underrated the 3D in this movie. Sanctum has natural immersive depth that is comparable to the best 3D movies and most IMAX documentaries. It's worth seeing at least once just to go cave-diving in 3D. Movie - 2/5 Stereography - 4.5/5 Depth - 5/5 Pop-out - 4/5 Dimensionality - 5/5 Last edited by BleedOrange11; 06-16-2012 at 07:34 AM. |

I also loved the look and 3D in this movie and agree with the points about the acting and storyline..Some scenes are gruesome to say the least (the ear bit for eg.),I have to look away or watch with my hand half blocking the screen!
