Of the 5 walmarts in my area only 2 of them have an HD movies at all... The one nearest me usually has 2 or 3 titles in each format and doesn't sell any players (excluding the PS3 and Xbox). 2 stores don't have either, 1 had 1 copy of Wild hogs and 1 copy left of 300 on HD DVD, and the last store has no movies but sells players for both formats. I don't get it. lol

I think when people want to go get tvs and movie players and movies, they don't go to WalMart, they go to Best Buy or Circuit City or the like.
I don't think I've ever purchased a single movie from Walmart thanks to their crappy selection of DVDs and and such. Last time I looked, they had a grand total of 4 HD movies, all Blu-ray, which consisted of 1 copy of 300, and 3 copies of Are We Done Yet?. Pathetic. |

I don't believe I will ever purchase a TV from Walmart. Then again, there may be individuals who find their TVs prices attractive and don't necessary care. My one Walmart has all of like 3 Blu-ray titles (no thanks i don't need to own Are We Done Yet?) and the other has none. I even saw an HD DVD in the PS3 display as many have noted in other threads.

The Big Box retailer that I've seen bringing in a better selection of HDM is Target.
I don't know how big a footprint Target has in North America, but in our area they cater to a slightly more upscale shopper than Wal-Mart. Things at Target are generally more expensive, but have a nicer quality and higher quality to them in general. At the Target stores in our area they have about 15 - 20 titles in about 1/2 and 1/2 Blu-ray to HD DVD. That $25 - $30 price tag at Target doesn't look nearly as out of place to a Target shopper as it might to a Wal-mart shopper who might go looking for a $5 DVD. But really, does anybody really buy those $5 DVD's other than grandmothers at Christmas who don't really understand what product they're buying? |

My brother was at Costco and said he saw blu-ray for about 20 bucks each! But it was nothing either one of us would like.
I would agree Walmart could help us win the war, but like any other retailer, they will carry both until one is no longer marketable. Studios are key here, not the peddlers. |

my walmart has probably about twenty blu-rays maybe 5 hd-dvds. also noticed this weekend a display featuring hi-def movies. it had a few of each hd-dvd and blu-ray and discussed the features they have over sdvd. pretty cool actually

WalMart wont "decide" anything... there is only ONE factory that will determine the war is the number of players and media owned. The only reason that Toshiba is still in this race is because their stand alone HD players are sell better than stand alone Blus. So, HD DVD is still seen as a viable option because, well, people are buying the players and those poor souls who bought a player, will need something to watch on them. If blu players over take HD DVD by a significant margin (greater that 2:1...more like 4:1) then support for HD DVD will fall apart and jump to the flourishing blu ray.

If Toshiba really wanted to make money this holiday season in the HD market, they'd release a Blu-ray player
![]() But they are prolly under some sort of contract with Micro$oft and can't support Blu even if they wanted to. Still, Walmart deciding the format war is a joke. Walmart is a joke. Now if Best Buy was to choose Blu, that might end the war (or bring it closer to fruition). |

I stopped at the nearest Walmart by my mother today jut for the hell of it (I never go to Walmart) and was looking around for about 5 minutes for their Blu-ray selection before asking one of the clerks where they were. His reply was: "We only have about 4 Blu-rays in stock, and they're all in the back. We never put them out because they're not very popular." Imagine all this BS said with a dumb sounding voice. I thought to myself, what a freakin' tool. I felt like talking to the department manager, but ended up changing my mind because I was kind of tired and I would have needed a lot more energy to argue with anyone. Needless to say, I left this particular store a bit pissed.
Point is, at this rate Walmart is not going to help any hi-def formats get a stronghold in the market. Let alone Blu-ray. |

I have a Super Walmart a mile from my house and they have the worst selection. They are all shoved in the bottom of PS3 game case and worst of all they stack them with HDDUD. What The HEll? I am gonna go over tonight and see if they actually got any of the new releases in.

This is SoCal. We're snobs here. I have to drive way across state lines to get to a WalMart. The one they tried to put up over in "the hood" resulted in drive-by shootings against the WalMart staffers looking at the proposed property site. Needless to say that one never opened.

No real Super Walmarts in Hawaii. Biggers ones, yes... however their selection of about 15 Blu-Rays and 15 HD DVDs has not been updated for some time.
They got a fancy stand with 4 sides (2 blu, 2 dud) with LCD TVs on 2 sites showcasing one of those sample DVDs.... I wish they'd update more, the only 2 other places to check for over here are Circuit City (way to overprizes) and Best Buy (had some trouble with them a while back and will never buy anything from there again) other than that this just leaves me with Amazon or the studio's sites if they do have special offers. |
