Who you callin' "'ho", dog?
![]() (Hey, I couldn't understand his response either! ![]() I'm also going with the "Bundle hostage" theory. I don't know which company Fox is allying themselves with (Panasonic?), but the studios seem to think the CGI movies are the ones that will attract audiences. (Which leads us to wondering when DW is going to free up Monsters vs. Aliens to a PS3 compatible disk.) |

The movie was lousy anyway so I doubt I would have bought it if it was released in 3D anyway. Still Fox has proven themselves no friend the 3D market. There only 3D title on the general market is Guilbars Travels. A mediocre conversion of a terrible movie

I spoke with a Panasonic representative at work (best Buy) yesterday, who stated that the current Avatar Bundle is being discontinued on July 31st, 2011. There will be a NEW bundle entering our stock system on August 1st, 2011. This new Bundle will include 2 pairs of newly redesigned Panasonic 3D glasses (yet to be announced or demoed.) New glasses will also be sold at a "significantly" reduced price compared to current glasses. (I was told to expect the glasses to cost around $60-80, and be USB rechargeable.) (Supposedly lighter and more comfortable then the late 2011 redesign currently featured in the Avatar + 2 glasses pack).
Is it a coincidence that the bundle is being discontinued and reconfigured literally the same week as Rio comes to 2D Blu-ray? I don't think so. I think we've got another "exclusive" on our hands, albeit I think it will be a short one, like Coraline or Alice in Wonderland. 60-90 days, max. Fox is almost as bad as Dreamworks with the exclusives. Ice Age, Avatar, Narnia, and now probably Rio as well. Oh well. At least I have a Panasonic, and was able to easily get the Samsung Exclusives through Ebay. I think 2012 will be the year when the exclusives come to an end. But I think Samsung still has both Kung Fu Panda films up it's sleeves for the fall as well. |

If the avatar bundle is ending July 31st. Does that mean it is possible that it will be released to the general public shortly after that date?

I feel bias against this movie because its existance was responsible for the cancelation of Pixar's Newt due to the similarity of the concept. While Rio is not a terrible movie I have absolutely no doubt that Pixar would have done a much better job with the concept. As far as childrens entairtainment goes Rio isn't the worst out there but there is very little in the movie to appeal to a more mature audience. Its mostly just bright colorful, family, fluff with little intellectual weight that brutal takes advantage of the low standards small children generally have

No. Avatar will still be exclsusive to Panasonic at least through the end of the year. The kit it comes in may simply cost less. Think around $149-$249, instead of the $399 it retails for now.

what the hell is wrong with Fox?? no 3D release AND another film that should have had a discrete 7.1 soundmix (as heard in the theater) - seriousily Fox? I don't get it, explain it to me, really... someone over at Fox Home Video needs a serious lashing - ?!?

And not only that, but there's no indication that once the exclusive period is up that there will be a retail 3D release. Bolt and Ice Age were both exclusives last year, they no longer are but they've yet to see a retail 3D release. Maybe the industry is still not convinced the market demand is where it needs to be yet (IE, they want to sell a lot more than they can right now to make it worth their while).

Well if somebody doesn't step up (no pun intended) and start releasing more 3D titles, then the market will never mature enough to mass market.
Personally, I think the pricing is still to high on 3D BDs. Since most new releases at selling for around $18 on release week, I think between $20 and $22 is good for new release 3D BDs. $25 - $30 is way to high. |
