20th Century Fox Rio 3D Blu-ray (2011) [Region Locked]

Rio 3D Blu-ray pre-order

Rio 3D Blu-ray Review

I just noticed that Rio is up on Amazon for preorder in BD and DVD form, but no 3D version. It's a 20th Century Fox movie, and I think the only 20th Century 3D movie released on 3D BD so far is Ice Age 3, is that correct? And that was a Panny exclusive. Does anyone know the story on Rio, is it going to be an exclusive as well? As slow as new content trickles out it's frustrating seeing so many new releases end up as exclusives.

Of the top of my head, besides Ice Age 3, other Fox exlusive 3Ds are Avatar and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. General retail is Gulliver's Travels.

I meant Fox/ Blue Sky Studios, but even with those that's 3 out of 4 issued as exclusives, so I bet they're going to do the same with Rio. Bummer.

I hate the fact that most of the 3D releases that people would want to see will be kept out of their hands by being manufacturer exclusives.

Well this really grinds my gears. I can't stand the damn exclusives anymore. I shelled out good money to upgrade to a new 3d tv and can't buy but half of the titles that are available because of all the exclusive deals. Nobody is going to buy your particular brand of tv because your the only one that offers Rio 3d for a year. Anybody know off the top of their heads if have the same region code that US blus have? I may import this one.

I agree. There are too few good 3D releases, and too many exclusives that last too long.

I don't really think that there will be that many more exclusives. According to Best Buy's employee news page The Dawn Treader kit is a very short window, like Alice in Wonderland. (Only about 60 days from June 1st, when the kit officially releases.) I'm betting we will see Dawn Treader in the fall, and that Rio will be day-and-date.

Sony has a ton of titles out in 3d blu (GH, all the Columbia House animated movies, etc). I'm hoping if there's a UK listing they'll follow with this.
I assume they just needed Dawn Treader to earn back some more of money to help bank roll Magician's Nephew, and a short exclusive window guarantees a certain amount of money.

I'd hold out hope for Rio. Besides the world is flat and all that- we can import it from the UK if need be. but here's hoping for the US release.

Europe (and Australia) are region b, US (and large parts of Asia I think) are region a. So if you import from UK or France then no, it's not the same region. But that is ofcourse if it is locked at all, most 3D blu's aren't.

That's odd. I just checked Amazon (US) again and it's still not listing the 3D version, fingers crossed that it's just an oversight.

There was some discussion under the US 2D BD release that Rio was never shown in 3D in the theaters and, therefore, would not receive a 3D BD release. This doesn't seem likely to me. Does anybody have any more info on this?

Bull #@%&!

They projected the movie "Rio" in both 2D and 3D at my local theater in Northern California U.S.A.

Saw both versions and still have my ticket stubs. On Saturday April 16, 2011 the 3D Early Bird matinee cost $9.00 and the 2D Early Bird Matinee on May 4, 2011 cost $5.75 . '

They need to release this movie in Blu-ray 3D here in the U.S.

Paul

Are you sure your not getting confused with "Rango"?

I've seen loads of threads of people mixing the two up!

Default No RIO 3D for US

Just saw the announcement for the US release of RIO and.. no 3DBD for us.

Someone posted there will be a mexican release...

Anyone else sad?

I liked this movie a lot, and think it would have been an awesome addition to our 3D titles available.
