Amazing news - thanks for posting.
It's a shame I bought the first film! I've never actually seen 2-7, are they any good? I can't imagine it being the sort of film that has decent sequels.

In my opinion 3,4 and New Nightmare were the good ones.
2 was ok, 5 and 6 were the worst.

None of the sequels reach the dark standards of the original but they are all good in their own way.

This is my favourite series of all time and what got me into horror films in the first place so I will always defend these films...except for the remake.

Part 2: Freddy's Revenge - they didn't know what they had with the first film. The Dream World rules hadn't been seen as important and this affects this film. Freddy in the real world isn't very good. The dark tone is still present and makes for an atmospheric film. Freddy's makeup is awesome in this film and there are a couple of great SFX set pieces. The soundtrack is great too. No imaginative nightmares in this one.

Part 3: Dream Warriors - the producers realised they made a mistake with the last film. The Dream World rules had been set in this one and it shows. the nightmare sequences are imaginitive and great looking. Very strong story, and some characters from the original film make a welcome appearance. This film set the standard for the next couple of sequels. Freddy becomes more wise cracking in this one but not to the stupid levels of later sequels.

Part 4: The Dream Master - the MTV one and the most succesful of the solo Elm Streets. Directly continues on from Dream Warriors with the survivors and new friends battling Freddy. This film isn't frightening but it's entertaining. the nightmare sequences are at their best here, some really cool effects in this one. This has the best Freddy demise too. In fact the way he dies in this one, it could have been the last one in the series. some would say it should have been.

Part 5: The Dream Child - weaker than most of the sequels. They try to go darker with this and suceed in with the sets and soundtrack but making Freddy too wisecracking doesn't mix well with the darker overtones of the film. Once again some imaginitive nightmare sequences. Took me a few viewings but I rate it quite highly.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - not a horror film. They went with a cartoon feel for this one and it suffers for it. If this was the last ever Freddy film, I would have been disappointed as he deserves a better send off than this. If you treat it as a comedy, you'll get something out of it. The worst of the bunch.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare - Craven takes Freddy back to his darker roots. essentially, a remake of the original but set in the real world. Sounds stupid but it's a really strong horror film. I would say this was the first post modern horror film not Scream.

Freddy vs Jason - exactly what you get. Lame characters but we're here to see two horror icons battle it out. Stupid but a hell of a lot of fun!!

Thank you very much - I found this extremely interesting. I will purchase this set once it's come down in price a little - I can imagine an extremely high price when it's first released.

This is brilliant news. I was considering purchasing the original, but instead I'll wait for this set. I'm not fond of the fourth, fifth and sixth films, but the others range from great to brilliant.

I'd go along with that kind of. The third was (IMO) the best of the sequels with the second not being really that bad. By the time the fourth came around they started to drop a little. 5 and 6 were just complete shit. 'New Nightmare' was fresh though.

is it too late to petition Warner to include Mahkaal, the Bollywood Elm Street film in the set? No Elm Street collection is complete without it

Im hoping that the Freddy's Dead Disc has the 3D portion in stereo rather than Anaglyph - The anaglyph version in the Region 1 boxset showed potential & I think it would look great on a 3Dtv.

I love all of these films in their own way - not nessesarily because they are great films - but a bit part of my teenage years.

Hopefully the remake wont be anywhere near this set- I wish I could erase its existence!

Any ideas on when Amazon UK will have these up for pre-order? I'm in the US and just pre-ordered the Part 2 & 3 combo on blu and will cancel that one if I know for sure this one is going to be available this year.

German Box. It's pretty much assumed that this will be the same as the eventual UK box, although cover art might differ.

be nice if it had a texture feel to the cloth on the cover with a 3D effect for Freddy blades. but that not gonna happen
