As soon as I read the letter, I thought the best thing to do would be to post it here.

I spoke to Guy Rob yesterday (he's the one who sent me the letter about the pricing) regarding how the Blu-ray release Star Trek: TOS - Season 3 wasn't mentioned in his letter and he said that if TNG-R sells fine, they'll consider releasing it.

I also asked him if a price had been decided on for the season sets and he said it hasn't. I suggested perhaps $70-80 and he said that could be a possibility.

Personally I'm hoping for $60-65. That'd be my max price range for buying locally. Any Warner Bros, Universal, HBO or Fox releases are never more than $60 a season on release now so if Paramount wants to keep competitive then I'm hoping they'll keep it around that price point.

TOS was $65 US on release three years ago and considering exchange rates have significantly improved for us and Blu-ray prices have dropped considerably since then if TNG is $65 in the US then to import it'll be around $65 AU delivered.

If Paramount releases it concurrently here and for a similar price I'll bite. I'm very happy to support local releases but I won't fork out the same cash for 2 seasons here when I can import 3 (or more) from overseas for the same price. That's what happened with TOS - I got all the three seasons for $200 from the US on release and each season here was $99-109 on release.

Looks like ratings logos are going to be printed on the slipcover for those that are "thingy" about that type of stuff:

The 'Season One' text has been moved above the ratings logos so it'll be printed on...

I hope this isn't so. That is a very nice looking package. I will buy overseas also if price isn't right. I only have TOS season 1 and now if I want to buy the other 2 it works out the same price getting the complete set 1-3 from the UK as it does buying the individual seasons 2 and 3 from anywhere else in the world. So I will then have to sell my AUS copy

^ Well JB has it for pre-order at $75 which is much better than the crazy $120 they were asking for TOS. It's comparable to overseas prices so far.

Paramount are not know for their decent pricing... In the current issue of an industry magazine Paramount Australia's VP & MD talks about price erosion being the biggest issue confronting this industry.... at least he didn't say piracy....but trying to tell people that the studios are selling their Blu-ray's too cheaply in Australia (and throughout the world) is a great big stinking pile of BS and certainly doesn't help Paramount locally when most people I know would import to save even just a few dollars! My favourite quote from the interview:

"We certainly haven't been leading with that (price erosion), and there has been a trend that pricing is being reduced, and I think that there is a danger to that"

I wonder if The Warehouse will stock it... they had Season 1 of original series, which was only $24 when it was in stock.. (went even lower if I remember)...

Could go under 60 at The Red Shed do you think?

I'd buy from MightyApe, but their shipping price for RD is ball busting.

Yeah man I remember that, I thought it was a mistake when I saw it haha.

Who knows with the warehouse, their prices can be damn good, but sometimes higher than elsewhere.

Yeah often Mightyape's shipping prices aren't worth it.

$25 is the maximum any BD movie should be, add $10 per movie if it is in a boxset. TV Series should be $50 maximum per season and add $20 per season if it is in a boxset. At these prices I think the only piracy that would go on is the die hard scabs, struggling families and TV Shows / Movies that are not yet released in our country. For example I download many TV series to watch them because they don't air here till way too late, For example True Blood, Smallville, Entourage. There is no way I am waiting to watch my favorite shows but I will usually buy it launch day in Australia anyways so I feel no guilt here whatsoever.

I decided to buy the German Steelbook for this one.
For roughly $85 post paid delivered to my door for a product that will retain (or even increase) it's value in the coming years (steelbook), this is why I chose this version.
