Here is what they need to do:

Wave some of that 3 billion they made off the IPO in front of Time Warner

Get those players down to at least 300

Flood the market with classics

Go to retailers and say, "If you only carry Blu-Ray from now on, we'll make it worth your while.

It's not Blu-ray players or Blu-rays they really need to push. It's HDTVs. They need more people to buy HDTVs.

The two main barriers to that are HDTV prices and the lack of HD content to put on them once you've got an HDTV.

So I'd say... cheap combo deals. Buy a smallish HDTV and a 40Gb PS3 together for $799.

I would start off with a price slash on players starting on black friday this november and add a buy 1, get 1 on blu rays themselves as well.

The BDA needs to really push on marketing. The price on players is good enough for most people who would consider adopting at this point in the technology's life. They need to build awareness among HDTV owners (something like 1 in 3 US households). Commercials dedicated exclusively to Blu-ray would be nice, but that's expensive for no concrete product. What they need to do is really push awareness of exclusives.

So during the Spider-man 3 commercial, state and splash in big letters:

Available only on DVD and Blu-ray

During the Ratatouille commercial, state and splash in big letters:

Available only on DVD and Blu-ray

During the Die Hard commercial, state and splash in big letters:

Available only on DVD and Blu-ray

During the PotC 3 commercial, state and splash in big letters:

Available only on DVD and Blu-ray

At every chance... in every commercial for any exclusive title, you emphasize boldly that these titles are for Blu-ray. That's how you build the mindshare necessary to drive mass adoption. No more of this passing mention of Blu-ray that you saw at the end of the Fantastic Four commercial.

I think they are planning on this already but to get awareness up about PS3 playing Blu Ray... SIMPLE though may lose some $. Include a Blu Ray in the PS3 box!

Also, include insert advertising Sony HDTV and how you'll get the most out of you Blu Ray Player and PS3. Include a coupon for money off of Sony HDTV sets!

EASY.

In the insert include information including Studio support "Disney, Fox, etc. Blu Ray exclusive." 50GB disc. blockbuster and whatever other vendor support. CE support. Currently outsells other high def format, etc.

If people actually take time to read this they'll say to themselves that Blu is winning now... likely to win... and can tell their buddies.

And of course, drop prices on stand alone players. They can stand to do a better job of informing consumer if they buy a Blu Player you get 5 free movies........

honestly though, there's nothing that is going to happen that will kill HD DVD this holiday season. If dominance is to come, it'll be after the holiday. I think HD DVD players will continue to sale as there price will drop faster. And for those that insist that price matter doesn't matter in the (expensive) HD world... please talk to the real world...

Disney has done ya one better they have a Blu-ray disc commercial that makes no mention of DVD at all, just blu-ray disc and shows these titles as well as Cars.

The BDA & Co. Aren't playing for the 4th Quarter. They have the ps3 tipping in at $399 just in the St. Nick of time, and expect the bdp-s300 to come in at or around $299-$399. The Sharp Aquos is already there ($399 online).

I expect to see some major sales, in the way of BOGO's on Sony titles & Disney titles too. Black Friday should be huge, hops you're listening BD companies...my Wallet is Cocked and ready to Rock!

As for FOX, they seem to Make no Mention of Format in their Movie release ads. So Hopefully they get something going on that soon!
