Lovely to see many fellow Hitchcock fans here!

I would guess that apart from the box set, these titles will be released individually sooner or later:

Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds, & Psycho (released in 2010).

It's a Warner title. Warner's will probably issue their own box set at some point meaning we'll be double dipping on NxNW.

I'm not a particular fan of these type of box sets unless it is a complete collection (which is near impossible except for short-lived artists like James Dean) but I doubt I'll be able to wait for individual releases on these. Damn it.

There's Warner Brothers box listed in the U.K. here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitch...533470&sr=1-22

This would likely contain North by Northwest, Dial M for Murder, Strangers on a Train, Suspicion, Stage Fright, I Confess, Mr & Mrs Smith, Foreign Correspondent (maybe), and The Wrong Man.

The German Universal box set includes 14 films here:

Alfred Hitchcock Collection Limited Edition Blu-ray

Includes the following films: - Rope - Rear Window - The Man who Knew too Much - Torn Curtain - The Birds - Family Plot - Frenzy - Shadow of a Doubt - The Trouble with Harry - Marnie - Psycho - Saboteur - Topaz - Vertigo

Ooh so we might end up with 2 Hitchcock sets in the near future?

I already have Psycho and North by Northwest, but I'd be so down for both of those sets.

fixed.

Though the 3D Dial M might be ready next year.

FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT actually belongs to the Caidin Trust, administered by Westchester Films (formerly Castle Hill). They did previously have a licensing deal with WB, but that has since expired. Criterion has already picked up STAGECOACH from them, so it makes perfect sense that this is forthcoming as well.

Other titles owned by the Caidin Trust that we could see as Criterion releases (one hopes anyway) are Rene Clair's I MARRIED A WITCH and Ernst Lubitsch's TO BE OR NOT TO BE.

I'll answer your question with another question : Why would Universal bother to release brilliant set, such as this, only in Germany?

Btw,this set is identical to Universal's Alfred Hitchcock - The Masterpiece Collection DVD set, released 6-7 years ago. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A1INJE/comingsoonnet-20
I still have this US gorgeous set. I'll waiting for the re-release of the same one in BD.

Yes, 3D will come as I know they're 'converting' it to the new 3D format for BD.

Re: FC, according to IMDB, it depends on the country released as to who 'owns' the rights. Anyway, if Criterion gets it it'll be great.

I'm not a big early (say pre-Rebecca) Hitchcock fan but a Criterion release of Foreign Correspondent would be most welcome.

As would a Warner release, for that matter.

I just want to finally be able to watch Rear Window & Vertigo. I've held off for so long.

Why is it that these Studios keep so much about release details secret, I mean come on don't tell me Universal doesn't know more about this set then they are putting out there. Like if they have plans for individual releases outside of the box set or not. I myself will be picking up the box set but just things like that would be nice to know.

That's funny - I'm the opposite! My favourites are The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes and Rebecca.

I don't want to be negative, but Universal's recent David Lynch box set was an unmitigated disaster, so perhaps those of you who are yet to pre-order may want to wait for a review?

Nothing has even been announced yet. When they do announce it I'm sure we'll know mostly everything we want to know

First of all, I have the Lynch box and it is flawed but no 'disaster', IMO. Anyway, there is Lynch thread in the UK section for that discussion.

Secondly, this is Hitchcock we're talking about here. Unlike Lynch, there will be releases of his films in all regions and there will be great interest in these classic titles. We know 'The Birds' is being restored, and it should look great. Universal hasn't had the greatest track record, I'll give you that. Here's hoping that they do it right - although there will always be the inevitable nit-picking types that never seem to be happy with anything.

I'm sorry if I offended you - that wasn't my intention. I thought some members might be interested in the quality of a recent box set put together by Universal, that's all.
