I bet it won't be all that wide, which is a shame. The Exorcist re-release did great back in 2000. I don't know why they don't re-release more movies in wide release. I'd love to see a lot of classics on the big screen, especially horror films. With a proper release I could see Halloween doing well in October. My favorite Halloween film is actually Halloween 4 though. I'd kill to see that on the big screen, but they only ever re-release the originals.

To be fair, though, The Exorcist was a new cut with footage re-inserted, so it was sort of billed as a "new" version of the film.

True, but it was also introduced to a new generation who had never seen it. At that time I'd never seen it, nor had many of my friends. Plenty of people paid to see The Lion King again last year. I know it was a 3D re-release, but I don't think 3D is why it did well. Interest in 3D movies had been waning. But it was a classic film returning to the big screen. I personally love going to the movies. I'd rather see something theatrically than at home, unless it's something I'm not that interested in. Would be really cool to see a classic horror film get re-released every October.

I personally wish I could see Scream on the big screen. Never had the chance and it's my favorite horror film. Despite probably seeing it over 100 times and owning the Blu I'd still jump at the chance to see it in theaters.

Bullshit. Tell that to all the sold out Avengers marathon screenings, Star Wars re-releases, Back to the Future 25th anniversary, and now Indy in IMAX. People will go if it's iconic enough and it's accessible enough. In fact, I'm going to the Indy marathon on Saturday after seeing Raiders in IMAX this weekend. Some of us just want to see our favorite films on the big screen. Things like this make that possible, and I love it. You don't want to go, fine. But don't think for one second no one will go.

I just made that post to get a rise out of people. If I could say see something like ET on the big screen again I would.

It should be played 24/7 365 at least somewhere.

I watched a REMASTERED version of Halloween (1978). I suppose the Hollywood producers think the pale washed out colors, and cool tint, will please the audience!? And look more realistic? But it is just plain downright UGLY!!! I refuse to believe John Carpenter had anything to do with it. They did it without his knowledge.

Can you expand on this? Which version/release?

The 35th Anniversary edition.

"Pick your favorite below."

Here is the 35th Anniversary, REMASTERED:

Here is the old version:

I refuse to believe that the remastered version is how the movie looked in theaters in 1978. The old version, with green grass and green leaves, invites me to step into the scene. The remastered bluish-grey version does not.

There is some fad in Hollywood, over the last 15 - 20 years or so, to make movies look grey and cold. I certainly don't like it. Perhaps they try to fool people into thinking the picture is balanced, but it is not.

Agreed. It's all personal taste, but I've never liked the new scrub by Cundey. It looks artificial. I love the natural colors.

I wish we could get a 4K with the 2000 THX edition transfer. The 2007 blu-ray is the closest we'll get to that.

The 2013 remastered version was supervised by cinematographer Dean Cundey and approved by Carpenter.

The 2007 disc was from a DVD-era scan. It was created for the 2003 DVD, and it’s smeary, with clumpy grain. But it was also done without considerations for what the filmmakers are trying to do. It’s not supposed to be a sunny Spring day in California. It’s a gloomy October morning in Illinois.

Living in IL my entire life, I’ll say the 35th Anniversary edition feels a LOT more like October in IL than the other one does.

I prefer the Shout 4K master… though the compression needs work.

Yes. It's supposed to look drab. It's supposed to be morning time of October 31st. It's not supposed to look warm and inviting.

Well, ... it’s a gloomy October morning in Illinois "all through the film". In closeups of the characters too. To me they look more dead than alive, even before Michael has stabbed them. Perhaps it's supposed to be like another zombie film? Or to emulate documentary feel dogma? Or is influenced by popular vampire series like Twilight?

This recent fad in Hollywood, the "illusion of reality", or rather, a symbol of the cool Matrix feel "virtual reality" of our screens, has affected many films. Even the remastered edition of Lord of the Rings has a touch of it, to "modernize" the films. A washed out grey with an overall greenish/blue hue. Another word for this hue is teal. Many people seem to find it "awesome": https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comm...so_many_early/

Here is one or many articles on the subject I found on the Internet:

If this turns up at my new local Apple theater I’d go see it. Hope it does.

You never know, but the thread title is referring to a 2012 reissue...

I love the 2007 transfer and it’s the only version I’ll watch until Shout or someone else does a more competent pass (with restored mono à la Black Christmas) for 4K.
