I know nothing of these movies. I've never seen them, I know my sister was talking about the first one years ago.

But I did watch that Documentary about the Writer/Director that came out years ago I think when it first came out called Overnight. And it talks about alot of things. Things I'm not gonna mention to derail the thread, but not nice things were said about the guy. And how a ego can kill your career.

Listening to the soundtrack of Part 2 right now. Didn't remember it to be that good actually. Puts me into the right mood to watch these flicks again

Well they also need Willem Dafoe on board for #3

Big fail if they don't make 3 given the ending of #2

The ending was the only good part of part 2.

It basically was just the first movie redone with a few different actors. Oh, the funny guy Rocco is dead, let's replace him with a funny Mexican (fail). Oh, Willem Dafoe doesn't want to do it, let's bring in a female more annoying version of his character.

I wanted to see the continuation of the story of the saints, not just a bad remake of part 1. I also found the editing sloppy in part 2, the movie had no flow. Too many unimportant scenes that dragged the tempo down.

I'd like to see a new edited version of part 2, with less Julie Benz in it (like in that hotel room shootout, like to see that one without her in it). Tried to edit it myself, but my skills don't go further than windows movie maker

Speaking of the editing of part 2, whatever happened to that extended cut Troy Duffy promised? He said something like half an hour or more was excised from the theatrical cut and part of that was an entire subplot that was removed from the finished cut. He said there was to be a release of the longer cut a few months after the initial BD release of the theatrical cut.

As for Julie Benz, I liked her in the film and my favorite scene was her in the cowgirl getup.

I guess Sony prevents him from releasing it. Or maybe they will when part 3 comes out. IF it comes out...

But I'm not so sure if added footage would improve part 2. I think it is too long. They should cut things out and trim some scenes imo.

Looks Like We're Going to Get a Boondock Saints 3

I'm a big fan of the first Boondock Saints movie, and the documentary that followed the making of it called Overnight. I didn't really care for the sequel though. It had some fun ridiculous moments, but in the end I was pretty disappointed, and it seemed like a lot of other fans were as well.

It took director Troy Duffy ten years to make the sequel, but it's looking like it won't take that long to get a third film off the ground. In case you're wondering how and why a sequel is happening, it's because the sequel actually did pretty well with home entertainment sales.

The news of Boondock Saints 3 comes from star Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) who says it might happen. Here's what he said in an interview with IFC,

Quote:
I’m meeting with Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy [Duffy] tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.
If these guys want a third movie to happen I'm sure it will happen. If they are able to get something into production I hope to hell it turns out better than that sequel, because that made me not want to see anymore of these films. Are you excited about the possibility of seeing a Boondock Saints 3?

This was from February. I found the update when they announced the director's cut of the second film was being released. If you look back On the last page, the project looked to be dead, with no one working on it. But they've had no motivation and returning to it. That's why I posted it.

Edit: weird...it's the same one from last October, but the article was recent. Weird...sorry, guys. They said, I know that after the Boston bombings, Duffy started work on the third. We'll see how it plays out.

Exclusive Announcement: The Boondock Saints II (Director’s Cut)

The success story that is The Boondock Saints has become legendary. Writer/director Troy Duffy was given the reins of his first produced screenplay, and given the bar where he worked at the time, and produced a cult phenomenon that eventually spawned the documentary Overnight and the sequel The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day ten years later, in 2009. It's been four years since we last visited Connor and Murphy (Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus), and while news is scarce about the long-rumored Boondock Saints III, that doesn't mean you don't have much more to see.

CraveOnline is exclusively announcing the Blu-ray release of The Boondock Saints II director's cut, which features 27 minutes of new footage, two commentary tracks, and even more deleted scenes.

Who ordered the whup ass fajita?!

From the Press Release:
After a theatrical box office of more than $10 million, Writer/Director Troy Duffy’s sequel to the cult classic The Boondock Saints is back and bigger than ever when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment debuts The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (Director’s Cut) on two-disc Blu-ray™ with UltraViolet™ exclusively at Best Buy on July 16th. The tough, stylized, vigilante-justice saga follows the boys when they return to Boston after being framed for the murder of a priest. Joined by a new accomplice, the Saints exact vengeance on those responsible. At the same time, they discover a deeper plot rooted in their own family’s legacy of violence. The Director’s Cut features 27 minutes of never-before-seen footage, including a longer opening sequence, a lengthened fantasy sequence and an extended elevator sequence leading up to the Prudential shoot-out. Special features on The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (Director’s Cut) include two commentary tracks with filmmakers and cast, deleted scenes, and seven behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Joining original cast members Sean Patrick Flanery (TV’s “Dexter”), Norman Reedus (TV’s “The Walking Dead”), David Della Rocco (Jake’s Corner), and Billy Connolly (The X Files: I Want to Believe) are Clifton Collins Jr. (Parker, TV’s “Red Widow”), Julie Benz (TV’s “Dexter”), Peter Fonda (Wild Hogs, Ghost Rider) and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire).

SYNOPSIS:

The MacManus brothers are living a quiet life in Ireland with their father, but when they learn that their beloved priest has been killed by mob forces, they go back to Boston to bring justice to those responsible and avenge the priest.

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day was written and directed by Troy Duffy from a story by Troy Duffy & Taylor Duffy. Chris Brinker and Don Carmody produced with Lloyd Segan and Rob Fried serving as executive producers.

Blu-ray™ Special Features Include:
  • Filmmaker and Cast Commentaries
  • Deleted Scenes
  • “Unprecedented Access: Behind the Scenes” — A making-of documentary
  • Seven behind-the-scenes featurettes:
  • “Billy Connolly and Troy Duffy: Unedited” — A multi-camera, off-the-cuff conversation between filmmakers on the success of the first movie, their evolutions as filmmaker and actor, and what they hope to capture on their second go-round
  • “Inside the Vault: The Weapons” – Featuring team members responsible for the film’s artillery & ammo
  • “The Cast Confesses: Secrets from the Set”– Cast discusses making the film
  • “The Boondock Saints Hit Comic-Con” – A look at All Saints Day at the famous fan forum, including footage of the panel and signings.
  • “Saints Off Script” – A rare look at the Saints having fun on set while the cameras aren't rolling.
  • “Back to Boondock” – An exclusive tour of pre-production with the cast and filmmakers.

The disc is now available to pre-order on Amazon.

I'm hoping, and thinking, that maybe since Duffy has gone back to finally put his director's cut together for the second film, maybe work on the third isn't as far off as we're hoping. This could be great news, indeed. For now though, I'm glad we're getting the longer rumored Director's cut of the second film.

I really liked the 1st movie but couldn't watch more than 20 or so minutes of the 2nd. The tone was really weird. I didn't understand if it was intentionally trying to be a comedy or if it was just that bad. I'm wondering is Norman's success in The Walking Dead has something to do with a 3rd being made.

You should really finish the second film. A lot of people have the same problem with the first half, but the second half is excellent. I enjoy the whole film though, honestly. But a third film really should happen...The second film leaves most begging for more, it's a pretty great cliffhanger, so we all knew it would happen eventually. I actually think part of what has spurred it was what happened in Boston recently, because Duffy went back to work on the third when that happened. It really kick started him into writing the third.

Troy Duffy Updates on 'Boondock Saints 3', As Well as Potential TV Series

It’s been some time since we heard about that potential The Boondock Saints sequel, but don’t think that means director Troy Duffy has forgotten all about it.

Quote:
I’m still working on the third film too. I’m trying to find my way through that plot. [...] I’m about halfway done [with] the script. So ya, that’s definitely on the front. We’re doing a third installment.
Duffy described the new script as “more introspective,” adding that he “couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s turning out.” Stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery remain set to return, and Duffy hopes he can get Willem Dafoe back as well.

Meanwhile, for those who prefer their vigilante justice on a smaller screen, Duffy also confirmed that the rumored TV series was “still on the hopper.”

Quote:
“I kind of envision a re-birth of The Boondock Saints for a new generation,” he explained. “With television you can go so much more in depth and tell a lot more story. I’m excited about it.”

I really wish he would come up with another story to tell. The Boondock Saints is a great film because it is so different than what we previously saw in film. Seeing that same story over and over is getting a bit tiresome.

The second wasn't even close to the same story as the first...other than them killing people. That's like saying all superhero movies are exactly the same, which some will say is true, but it isn't.

That's like saying the Batman movies are as different as Batman is to Inception. Its the same "universe", I'm just hoping he has something else up his sleeve.

‘The Boondock Saints 3' Has a Title and Plot

1999′s The Boondock Saints overcame bad reviews and an even worse box office performance to become a cult hit anyway, but The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day never achieved quite the same popularity as its predecessor. Put it this way: I’ve never heard a college kid declare the second Boondock Saints to be his favorite movie of all time.

Nevertheless, some fans have continued clamoring for a Boondock Saints 3, and director Troy Duffy has now offered some new details on what it’ll be called and what it’ll be about. Hit the jump for all Boondock Saints 3 plot details and more.

Duffy offered the Boondock Saints 3 during a fan Q&A on Facebook (via Flickering Myth). Unlike some directors, he’s not particularly secretive about the details of his upcoming film. He revealed that the new movie was currently titled The Boondock Saints 3: Legion.

If you saw The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, you’ll recall that it left off with the McManus brothers (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus) in prison. In The Boondock Saints 3: Legion, we’ll see that they’ve gained quite a bit of “notoriety” while behind bars.

The “Legion” part of the title apparently refers to the legions of people who, inspired by the McManus boys, decide to become vigilantes themselves. Additionally, The Boondock Saints 3: Legion will look back at the McManuses’ beginnings, flashing back to their “very first crime.”

Duffy readily admitted that he had only himself to blame for the long delay between the second and third films. “It’s my fault,” he said. “It’s taken awhile… It’s cause I want to get it right.” However, it may take a while longer still, seeing as he didn’t offer any estimates as to when Boondock Saints 3: Legion might hit theaters or even begin shooting.

As of 2013, Reedus and Flanery were still expected to return, even though the former said in 2012 that there “will not be a part 3″ due to “creative differences.”
