This is a polarized version. They went back and (somehow) used computers to reanimate the scenes but instead of rendering them, used that information to make the existing footage 3D.
I think it looks great, but this is not the first year this has been out. In fact I've seen this last year myself, and maybe the year before as well (can't remember). It may become a "tradition", in which case I say, BRING IT ON!

I just wish they could release this to BD already! That and I want to see a BD player that supports 3D like this.

I would definitely stand in line for this release. I saw it in 3-D and was completely blown away.

Samsung DLPs already have the 3-D sync port in them.

I wouldn't be shocked if Samsung paid for a seperate 3-D encode for whenever they launched their glasses hardcore as a pack-in

Personally, I hate anaglyphs of any kind, usually. I can deal with any kind of 3-D viewing technique, with or without glasses. But too much anaglyph does give me a headache.
I was going to ask about that. That is, headaches. Some 3D things I've seen give me a headache after a while so are you saying that sort of thing won't happen with the Nightmare Before Christmas? Basically, if the "polarized" technique lessens that, I'll definitely go see this movie.

I won't say that it won't give you a headache... some people just have a big problem with viewing simulated stereo for long periods no matter what. However, the Real-D system is a lot more superior with minimal to no ghosting, tilting head will not produce double images (until you go maybe more than 50°), and more natural look. In fact, you may forget you're wearing the glasses. Also, quite a lot better than the IMAX system, which is very poor in comparison (the IMAX screens just aren't very well designed for stereo projection). I suggest NOT sitting too close to the screen. Probably around the middle to 3/4 back of the theater is the optimal viewing distance.

BTW -- if you see some oddities, such as lumpiness, reversed stereo, etc, it's not your eyes playing tricks on you. I love the 3-D presentation, but they really need to clean up the stereo a lot. It's still nowhere near as bad as Superman Returns.
