Trek was flooded with Shaky Cam, and It was quite pronounced in the Imax 9 min preview of into darkness (viewed online)

I hope they bring in a Star Trek fan to direct the next one. Bryan Singer would be my first choice.

I don't know if Paramount should be happy or mad. Star Trek 2 will be getting a lot more attention because of JJ being the director for the next Star Wars, but everybody will be asking about Star Wars, making Star Trek Into Darkness old news.

He probably won't be directing but nothing is certain. Now I don't mind if he helps write and then produces the next Trek to complete his trilogy.... but beyond that, I think he should hand the keys over to the franchise. He's done his work.....

Yeah, I didn't see much lensflare in MI:3. It was only really noticeable during the Shanghai scenes, which were shot at night.

And I was expecting heaps in Super 8. I was searching for it... It really wasn't there. Not on the Trek '09 level.

Whatever. Doesn't anyone like lens flare? We'd always be trying to get the best lens flare we could on VHS tapes in high school. I love the overuse in Trek. Gives it this flashy, in-your-face thing.

I don't mind its lens flare. Its Shia Labeouf, it gets overrated hate for whatever reason.

I just hope that JJ doesn't start to get confused between the two franchises. The last thing we need to see is the Borg invading Endor. Those furry little guys don't deserve to be assimilated

Man, Ewoks were pretty vicious to begin with. They were strong enough to bring down the Galactic Empire. Ewok Borgs would be, like, the end of the universe!

I'm sat at work now and all that I can picture in my mind is an Ewok Borg. It's quite a disturbing image

Producer Bryan Burk Suggests ‘Star Trek 3′ Could Be Out For 50th Anniversary In 2016

J.J. Abrams‘ first Star Trek movie was released in 2009 and it’s taken four years to get its sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, into theaters. With the director now moving on to Star Wars Episode VII, many have questioned will happen with the Trek franchise. Producer Bryan Burk has provided a possible answer.

In a new interview, Burk acknowledged 2016 as the 50th anniversary of Star Trek and agreed it seems like a perfect time to release a new movie. Read his exact quote below.

Burk said the following while talking to the Digital Spy (thanks to Trek Movie).

Digital Spy: Given that the Gene Roddenberry series debuted in 1966 and we’ve just had a huge Bond 50-year anniversary celebration – has Paramount been talking to you about making a 2016 release date for the next Star Trek film?

Bryan Burk: We’re definitely talking about the next one, but we haven’t talked about a release date. We don’t want to wait four years, the same amount of time between the last one and this one, but it’s going to be a big year to celebrate, hopefully.

That’s certainly not a guarantee but, the phrase “we don’t want to wait for years” as well as “it’s going to be a big year to celebrate, hopefully” suggests three years from now, 2016, would be the perfect time to release a third Star Trek film. A film most believe Abrams will produce while he’s off in a galaxy far, far, away.

We obviously have yet to see Star Trek Into Darkness but, assuming it’s good, that would likely be because it wasn’t rushed like many fans wanted. Do you think a 2016 release date, without J.J. Abrams at the helm, would be a rush?

‘Star Trek 3′ Would Likely Center on Klingons

As is usually the case when a major franchise sequel is on the horizon, talk quickly turns to a potential follow up. Robert Downey Jr., for example, was hounded about doing Iron Man 4 before this weekend’s Iron Man 3. With Star Trek Into Darkness just a couple weeks away, the cast and crew of that film are being grilled about what a potential Star Trek 3 might be.

We already know Paramount is hoping the film will be ready for 2016, the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. Despite J.J. Abrams’ minor commitment to another film before that date, he’s still open to directing. Now producer and co-writer Damon Lindelof has suggested that a third film could feature a Starfleet vs. Klingon plotline, jumping off from the role Klingons play in Into Darkness. He also talks about the possible return of a major character.

Read his quotes, as well as the thoughts of several other cast members, after the jump.

Minor spoilers for Star Trek Into Darkness follow.

Speaking to HeyUGuys (via Bleeding Cool), Lindelof said three major elements are already in play for a third Trek film, items such as:

Quote:
‘This is what the plot is going to be, this is who the bad guy is, this is what they’re up against.’
He wouldn’t confirm anything beyond that but, when asked about the Klingons, said the following:

Quote:
You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in this film we’ve given the audience a little taste, but there’s also a promise that there’s a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see.
The main villain in Star Trek Into Darkness is John Harrison, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, but the Klingons also play a role. (You’ve even seen them here.) I won’t spoil more than that. But what Lindelof says is true, there’s a promise of a larger conflict.

He was later asked if Cumberbatch’s character could possibly return:

Quote:
To answer that question would be to determine whether or not he actually survives this movie, but if he survives this movie, I think that we would be incredibly stupid to not use him again.
We’ll have much more on the specifics of Star Trek Into Darkness, how the film sets up a third one and more as we get closer to release.

I'll comment properly next week, but I heard a little something about the Klingons, and I'm a little... um, sick?

I don't wanna be one of those comic book nerds that hates female Jimmy Olsen's and Mary Jane's that grew up next door in Queens, but, man. This is Klingons. I didn't learn a fictional language and throw heavy objects when I'm excited for... well, this. They're too centred in pop culture and have way too many dimensions for fans to ignore... apparently not. Or maybe JJ simply isn't a fan...

Of course, I have to see Into Darkness. I'm planning to not anticipate it, and write it off as crap right now. When I do this, the film is usually fantastic (Iron Man), when I'm prepared to see a great sequel to a great movie, it doesn't pan out (Spiderman 3).

But, if my little rumour is true, and this one above as well, it is the worst decision Star Trek has ever made. And also, a classic villain? I better start spoilering...

[Show spoiler]Okay, Star Trek is nearly fifty. It's one of televisions longest running franchises, and is only a couple decades behind Marvel comics. It has recurring races, yes. But recurring enemies? Almost never. There's the odd enemy that has featured in more than one episode (and of course, there's DS9 which was structured differently), and one enemy that has returned from an episode for a movie.

But now they're gonna get that same villain, not another return from the show, but the same one, and follow it up with a sequel about Kruge? "No it's not Kruge, how can you presume that? You're wrong! You're wrong! Oh... yeah, okay, it's Kruge..." There was a time when you knew tuning into Star Trek meant seeing something completely original...

I dunno... am I being a big, stupid, obsessed nerd?
