Default 'Star Trek Beyond' - July 22, 2016

Quote:
J.J. Abrams Will Still Be Involved With STAR TREK 3

According to a reliable source (see below), J.J. Abrams WILL still be involved with the Star Trek franchise beyond this May's Into Darkness. As many predicted when the news broke that the director will helm Star Wars: Episode VII, Abrams is set to serve as a producer on both the third Star Trek movie and the next Mission Impossible (presumably under his 'Bad Robot' banner). This was confirmed earlier today by Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore. "J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new ‘Mission: Impossible,’ and he is committed to produce another ‘Star Trek," he said. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that Abrams won't direct the third instalment as he could jump straight from Star Wars back to Star Trek. However, that may end up being dependent on whether or not Disney will want him back for Episode VIII.

From Marc Graser's Twitter:

Quote:
J.J. Abrams to produce a third STAR TREK movie and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, according to Paramount. STAR WARS doesn't kill his involvement..

I like Abram's take on Trek, at this point I care more about it then I ever will about Episode 7.

The article isn't really clear if he will direct however...Looking at his body of work there is really nothing that grand about his directing abilities (He is perfectly fine, just nothing memorable about his style), so him sticking around as a producer is a good win. There are just so many junk directors that can easily drive this franchise into the ground.

I think he'll probably be producer only, much like 'Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol' and 'Mission: Impossible 5'. He's a great producer as well, and I'm sure he'll be hands on. It'll be interesting to see how hands on he'll be with the 'Star Wars' franchise as well. Especially now with the 'Star Wars' TV series back in the cards, I wonder if he could shepherd it along, much like Whedon is doing with the Marvel 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' show.

As long as he can give complete attention to Episode VII and still be involved with Trek, I'm fine. To me, Star Wars is more important.

Wait a minute! So, the same guy that directed Star Trek is now going to direct Star Wars? Did hell freeze over or something?

I think JJ's greatness is less obvious than others.

He really knows how to pace his films and above all make them extremely entertaining.

The fact that he's a huge geek plays into things as well. He's able to look at a franchise and understand what the movie needs to be successful.

I would have faith in Trek 3 even if he was only a producer because I think a lot of JJ's talent lies within the groundwork of his projects. He knows how to assemble a team.

Ghost Protocol for example. Not directed by JJ but imo it still felt very much like MI3. To me MI3 and GP feel as if they were cut from the same cloth. The only two movies in the franchise that really feel related to one another.

I'm 100x times more interested in Star Trek 3 than Star Wars Episode 7. It sucks even more if they set up for another sequel in Star Trek Into Darkness.

I would love it if J.J returned for Star Trek 3, but now he's focused on Star Wars I guess I wouldn't mind him producing it.

Bring in Brad Bird to direct! It worked for Ghost Protocol, the best film in the franchise so far!

Trek and Wars don't belong to any directors, so I'd like to see a variety of directors have a go now that both franchises are so open.

Since JJ only works on films with STAR in the title now, I fully expect remakes of The Star Chamber, A Star is Born, Dog Star Man, Fist of the North Star, and a sequel to Stardust.

He doesn't use shaky cam very much at all...as for lens flare, he used it sparingly in 'Super 8' and 'M:I:3', so I expect This will be much of the same. 'Star Trek' is the only one with a lot of lens flare.

I disagree there. The lense flare in Super 8 was atrocious, he even had them in scenes where there was no light source.

It's one thing to have a trademark, it's another to masterbate eye candy on screen at your pleasure.

I just watched the first three episodes of Fringe last night and there were lens flares all over the place.
