Picked-up Annie Hall today.
Not sure what will win this year. I've only seen Lincoln and Life of Pi. Hoping to catch Django on Friday and to see Argo, gonna have to go to a 2nd run theater here. also hoping to maybe catch Zero Dark Thirty this weekend. |

Personally, I love The English Patient. The King's Speech is a solid movie, but The Social Network deserved it that year. I really like Forrest Gump but 1994 was a strong year and I can think of 4 movies I prefer from that year.
From the past decade, I feel these are the least worthy Best Picture winners: 1. Crash 2. Chicago 3. The Artist 4. The Hurt Locker 5. A Beautiful Mind |

The English Patient is one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't get the hatred toward it. Crash is the worst Best Picture winner in (my) recent memory. I hated it the first time; gave it a second chance and hated it more. How that won over Brokeback Mountain I'll never understand.

I think Brokeback is a great movie and deeply affecting. My personal preference for the year would've been Spielberg's Munich. But between Crash and Brokeback, I'd go with Brokeback every time.
I have no idea how The Artist won all those awards last year. Having seen all 9 of last year's nominees, it's easily among the bottom two with Extemely Loud. ![]() Last edited by Rizor; 02-13-2013 at 07:40 PM. |

I've said this in other threads but Nicholson's 'whoa' really did say it all.
It's not just that Brokeback Mountain was so good...Crash was just so vapid and shallow. I could have lived with Munich but Crash was just ridiculous. |

The only released (US) titles I don't have any interest in buying are Braveheart, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and Chicago.
Other than that I have almost everything except Driving Miss Daisy, Gandhi, and 5 from 1960 and earlier. For me it would seem that the year 2000 was when Best Picture became meaningless. I can't even get behind No Country as a winner, despite being a Coen fan -- IMO There Will Be Blood should have taken the 2007 prize (and the Coens should have won 2 years later for A Serious Man). |
