Any thought of adding Sunrise to the list? It was given the 'Unique and Artistic Production' award at the first ceremony, an honor that hasn't been awarded since but was really considered a co-'Outstanding Picture' award with Wings. Both categories were amended the following year to the 'Best Picture' award that we have today.

Dances With Wolves and Amadeus have yet to be released in true "Director's Cuts" -- i.e., the theatrical versions. Costner admitted he had nothing to do with the extended edition of DWW, and Foreman hated the scenes cut back into his movie for the supposed Amadeus "director's cut".

Thanks for the list!
To be honest, I'm really surprised Sony hasn't released It Happened One Night, and especially From Here to Eternity, on Blu-ray yet. Those always seemed to be consistently good selling titles on DVD. The same surprised reaction to MGM not having In the Heat of the Night out yet. |

And In the Heat of the Night is a really less demanded title, MGM will have to prepare a proper new edition with extras to have it sell. And as a very dark movie it will be problematic to create a referance HD Transfer without a 4k Scan. The dvd had a sub par transfer and no extras so sold very very less, so did Marty though it had a very good transfer. And Marty should be released, it's transfer is so good it will sell without extras. And I think MGM should give In the Heat of the Night and Silence of the Lambs to Criterion, they both deserve 4k Scans and the Criterion treatment of extras. Same here. Shakespeare in Love will never be my collection. The Best Picture Oscar should have gone to Saving Private Ryan.

I still blame the Weinsteins for that whole mess! They had Disney's deep pockets available to them at the time and had no reservations about digging deep. |

I enjoy revisiting my DVD copy of Around the World in 80 Days, but this movie belongs in high definition with a good restoration, simply because of the vastness of the landscape scenery. |

and this year's winner is..............
my picks are : ARGO..outstanding...exciting film...even though you know how it will end, it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK....amazing film..amazing performances by everyone...not all what I expected when I went to see it..it's going to rake in a lot of the big Oscars that being said ..I did not see Lincoln nor do I plan to until it comes out on video. Yeah ,I know it's Speilberg..but having read so many books on Lincoln, and so many out there that I haven't read, I had no interest. My loss probably, but the film did not deliver the need to see it. |
