It's from his personal Facebook page. He claims that Severin breached their contract over accounting and royalties and have paid the filmmakers zip.
So a bunch of fans started saying "f*** 'em" (dunno if directly to Severin or not) and Severin cried about it and said they'd take legal action. It's hard to know who's really in the wrong (especially since this isn't the first time VanBebber's had issue with a distributor*), but I think Severin are greatly overreacting. Then again, VanBebber's semi-public dismissal of Severin may have been the tipping point for them in an ongoing problem. *(In his defense, Synapse's DVD for Deadbeat at Dawn really does look like shit and is missing footage. Dark Sky did a much better job.) |

Just watched this for the first time, last night. Received it as a gift along with Diary of a Deadbeat and the Synapse DVD of Deadbeat at Dawn. I thought it was really interesting how it anticipated the whole neo/faux grindhouse genre. It's ahead of its time, in some ways. Even though it's very unpleasant in parts, I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to dive into the features. That Arrow release of DaD can't get here soon enough...

Just watched for the first time and I never heard of it before 6 months ago and I really liked it. The director mastered the art of switching between visual formats really well. Very Oliver Stone-esque. Glad I blind bought. Will be revisiting again soon.

Honestly, I don't know if that was intentional or just a byproduct of VanBebber having shot the movie over two decades. You can tell the stuff shot in "the present" (the bookend, young group of Manson followers stuff) was filmed after the actual Manson Family footage, and I suspect the video interviews were shot sometime in between.

Recently bought this and watched it for the first time in years. I saw it back in the mid-2000s and didn't really "get" it--I was younger. Upon revisiting, I found it an effective and surprisingly disturbing account of the Manson murders. It's low budget, but quite an achievement no less. What is the status of it exactly? I got a copy from a private seller on Amazon, but the Severin store lists it as out of print. Is it actually that hard to find?

I think the director had some kind of falling out with Severin, so they just washed their hands of the release a few years ago. |
