Predator UHE - scrubbed the shit out of it with DNR.
The Perfect Storm - even the dvd has more detail in it! Dog Soldiers - most definately a pointless blu ray release... Ong Bak - The film never looked that bad! Robocop is passable, but still at the top of my list for a full remastered special edition... |

Exactly.
I am most disappointed with the transfer of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace", not because it's so bad, but because it's such a mixed bag, from brilliant to awful. I wish we received a filmic transfer of this, as the current one doesn't do the film justice. I think it could look as good as the remastered Gladiator BD, and that one is simply gorgeous! Dead Poets Society is another one. I blind-bought it, and love the film, but it looks so dated. Brcue Almighty is terrible too, especially for such a relatively new film. DNR all over the place! |

One other BD worth mentioning is The Naked Gun, perhaps my favorite comedy movie. The transfer is uneven throughout and at least in one scene, at the airport right around the time Weird Al Yankovich gets off the plane, there is a weird Moire-like (?) pattern that looks like the scene was shot through a screen door. I have never seen that phenomenon appear on another Blu-ray disc.

The worst looking release I have has to be the The Italian Job (2003) the video was horrible and even though a DTS track is listed as one of the specs the DTS track is sadly absent.
Original Terminator release, though the audio is awesome given the mono origins. |

I wouldn't mind seeing a HD broadcast version of TPM to see how that stacks up, which would have been made long before the Blu-Ray.. AOTC could do without the teal and with more sharpness even though the latter is unavoidable now (without resorting to crappy EE) due to an error in judgement Lucus made at the time of shooting AOTC... |

Goldeneye is up there (or down there), considering how long we had to wait for it and how little care was given to it. It really looks like a murky, blurry mess.
Also, Superman Returns looks downright bad, but some of that is due to the strange aesthetic choices that Bryan Singer made rather than the transfer itself. Beyond that, it's laundry list of video defects - banding, artifacting, shimmering, poor black levels, digital noise... just check the boxes. Last edited by Belmont; 03-18-2013 at 04:54 AM. |

Despite all the prewarnings, nothing prepared me for the grain-fest of An American Werewolf In London.
I saw a digital screening at FrightFest in London prior to it's release and it looked incredible. Not sure what happened but the BluRay would look like it was projected onto a sandstorm in comparison. |

![]() I'd have to mention DARK CITY. Tons of DNR/EE but the Director's Cut scenes have film grain oddly. I love the movie still, just crap transfer. There are others but now I do the research before buying titles. |

[QUOTE=Ray_Rogers;7293822]The movie does have heavy grain. So very sorry Universal forgot to overcrank the DNR and EE settings for you people who hate film grain. This format is not for you.
![]() I actually prefer grain to DNR and EE put seeing the version I saw on one of the biggest screens in the UK really psyched me up for it looking that good. I read afterwards that John Landis tweaked the Blu-Ray master to remove colour and add grain because it looked too good. Orginally you could actually read the labels on the beer bottles in The Slaughtered Lamb. |

Eyes Wide Shut - Im sure a decent remaster will get this looking much better...if it ever happens
![]() Predator "Ultimate Hunter Edition" - Ill stick with the 2008 one thanks Robocop - Im sure this could look much better with a Terminator style remaster. Hurt Locker - I like grain but this is silly! A film this new should be looking a lot better than this. |

As I said the BD is still 3,5/5, but I wanted it to be 4,5-5/5. ![]() I guess a HD broadcast version would be interesting to see next to the BD version indeed. They should never have used the BD transfer for the 3-D version, as the DNR made it look soft and artificial. AOTC is a solid 4/5 for me, but yeah, its softness is its weakness. The first time I saw it on BD, I had to put in the DVD to compare the PQ, if it were the same, but the BD was clearly superior. It was indeed a bad call on Lucas and team's side to use the soft setting on the camera. The should have done it in post, if at all, so they we could now have a pristine image. I don't remember that. I thought it looked great in theaters, but it has been a while since then. |
