I don't really mind because none of my relatives are clumsy so they don't drop them. But if they drop it and break it, they will buy me new one. Also I don't actually keep steelbooks on display, mostly just my box sets.

I let a select few well-trusted friends touch my collection. Besides people not taking care to put things as they were, I am concerned about damage.

largest part of my collection is in my bedroom, including steelbooks
the nicer editions / limited editions / etc. are in my other room with the ps3, tv etc. and I have put those editions inside a vitrine, the movies I haven't watched yet are on a different shelf :d.

My regular blu rays are fair game, I let friends borrow them all the time. But my steelbooks are off limits.

I used to be pretty bad about it but now it's not a big a deal to me, for the most part I let any of my friends/family borrow whatever they want

I don't mind people handling steelbooks, but why do people have to touch the PC monitor or the TV screen? If they have those habits I definitely won't let them touch other things in my collection.

I try to make things a little hard to get to anyway. To get to my steelbooks you would have to start opening doors, cupboards or getting to boxes above my wardrobe.
I was thinking the same thing. I was raised in the kind of "do not touched unless you were permitted to touch" way. People come to your house and they automatically have to go touch this movie, this book, this controller, game, TV screen (which bugs the **** out of me). I even had a friend who he picked up a movie, put it back and everything. We were watching the movie right beside it and I went to put the disc back up. I noticed this a tear/hole in the cover of the one he picked up. Apparently, he grabbed it so hard and his thumb nail went through the cover.

I know what some may say: "That could be avoided by trashing the eco-cases and buying new ones". I may do that one day, but in all honesty... if I can handle not ruining the thing with my grip, then I expect others (especially him who buys movies as well) to understand and do the same.

I let people touch my blu ray collection but I only let my older brother touch the steelbooks since he collects them too and won't drop them or throw them about.

Feel free to have a browse through, but the steelbooks are in polybags for a reason.
The most important rule of them all though is that I'm not Blockbuster, so.... the answer is a resounding NO. You can't borrow anything. Please feel free to take offence or bestow any names you wish. The answer will STILL be NO.

My collection is tucked away in the home office, so it completely off-limits to anyone who comes over. I just don't like people messing with my stuff.

I don't like any of my belongings handled by anyone.

The absolute most appalling example of this is when a stranger picks up a guitar and starts playing which is the equivalent to a stranger running his hand up your wife's thigh.

I set boundaries often and quickly.

I put an entire action figure collection away because my aunt used to think it was fun to show my (then) infant nieces "the toys".

Steelbooks are completely off limits because they are opened and the finishes are so touchy.

Man...don't get me started.

another great topic.

I don't let anyone handle my steelbooks. I also don't allow many people into my man cave either. I don't want their hands on anything unless invited. Some of my wife's family also has some sticky fingers.

I keep my steelbooks in a locked cabinet.

As long as respect is shown to my things, I don't mind if they are handled.

Having said that, I agree that many people don't know how to safely handle a disc (FINGERS ONLY ON EDGES OR THE MIDDLE, NOT THE BOTTOM SURFACE!!!).

Cases are less of a big deal but I don't want them mangled either.

Decent topic. Good to read about others and how they feel on the subject.

I don't think I care about people handling my blu cases, I will load the movies though. But my Steelbooks are off limits as they scratch easily (still waiting for the sleeves I ordered from the UK to arrive so I can start handling them again). I saw what happens over time to my Future Shop Iron Man, slight surface scratching an paint worn off due to countless viewings, ended up selling it on eBay. Hindsight I should have just bought a standard copy to watch. I never realized the "value" until recently to some Steelbooks.

Do you mind it if guests handle your collection?... Yes.

My attitude towards this matter is > Have your drink and get lost!.

Definitely not. I get mean when people just do it, without even bother to ask. If they ask, i usually give them an answer that'll show them how anal i really am, and they decide it's best not to go there....

"The usual vault rules apply - touch not, lest ye be touched".
I try to be cool about it but yeah, it annoys me when people don't show stuff the proper respect or put things back in order. I've leant DVDs out and gotten them back scratched, especially the Wire box sets that everyone wants to borrow... I've actually thought about having one set of The Wire seasons for myself, and one for borrowers (since I do like helping people discover that great show).
It's a hidden plus of blu rays for me - very few people I know have blu ray players, so they don't even ask to borrow them.

I actually actively hand my steels over to my friend when I show him a new one, especially if it's a cool design or a film I know he likes.

Steels are tactile pleasures. Share the love
