MGS for PSX/PC is the only one thats needed. The Gamecube remake changed cutscenes, musical score and the script was given a new translation. Adding in the aiming system from MGS2 made the game way to easy. The levels was never designed with that in mind, so the game became unbalanced.

I'm glad it's never going to see the light of day on any other console. But thats just me.

I just feel that MSG1 needs the updated graphics to better fit in with the later games.

I wouldn't say I'm necessarily glad that it will never branch out to other consoles. I am happy that it won't be replacing the original, though. The Twin Snakes is great, but I still prefer the first game for what I consider to be a superior score, better voice acting and a more unique atmosphere.

I LOVED the GameCube version. Although it was incredibly easy...

The updates graphics were a nice touch though and since the first MGS is one of my all time favorites I couldn't pass it up at the time. Having said that, without an MGS HD remake I'm gonna pass. I can just play the PS1 discs. Plus I already have HD collection for both PS3 and Vita.

Yeah, I've already got MGS4, the HD Collection for PS3 and Vita, as well as MGS from the PS Store. Cool set with pretty neat artwork, but for someone like me who's been collecting the games for years, there's really nothing new to warrant another purchase.

If they were to actually include a Vita version of Peace Walker, then I'd absolutely reconsider.

Upset that this set isn't complete without Portable Ops. That game needs to get an HD port already

IA with most of what you say but never get behind people when they list this as one of the negatives about the port. You NEVER have to use the first person aiming. You can play the game as originally intended by simply ignoring this feature. Its not forced onto you and they don't change the level design to incorporate in any mandatory fashion. Its merely an extra option, not a requirement

Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for Japan and showed what’s inside the box. The compilation of Metal Gear to Metal Gear Solid 4 will be on two Blu-rays. The list of games is a little different too. Japan gets Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 (these are MSX emulated ports inside Metal Gear Solid 3), Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid Integral, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (with trophy support), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and the two graphic novels.

What’s Metal Gear Solid Integral? It’s essentially the "international" version of Metal Gear Solid. Konami made tweaks to Metal Gear Solid for the Western release like adding multiple difficult modes, PocketStation mini-games, and first person mode. Metal Gear Solid Integral also has English voice acting with Japanese text. The game also includes 300 VR missions which were released as Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions in North America. Metal Gear Solid Integral isn’t on either disc. Konami included a code in The Legacy Collcetion to download Integral as a Game Archives title from PlayStation Network.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection also includes a 100 page Legacy Book. Konami will release this on July 11 for 7,980 yen ($80).

Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection 'too big' for Xbox 360 release, explains Kojima

Series creator suggests next-gen Xbox release is a possibility

Quote:

Hideo Kojima has explained why upcoming Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection won't be released on Xbox 360.

Speaking on the latest episode of his radio show (translated by Kotaku), Kojima cited the size of PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 as the primary reason.

"I'm sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn't being released, because an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 hasn't gone on sale," he explained. "To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous."

Kojima went on to point out that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released on Sony's Blu-ray disc, which is capable of storing substantially more data than the Xbox 360 DVDs. According to Kojima it would take seven discs to hold the game.

"I want to put [The Legacy Collection] out," Kojima added, "but we won't be releasing it."

Kojima suggested a next-gen release of Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection as a possibility.

"When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release [The Legacy Collection]," he said. "If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it's not The Legacy Collection."

The collection is expected to be available in Japan in June. It will include: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (which includes the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition.

It's June in the US too according to other sites. Only the EU has yet to get a confirmed release

I'm a Metal Gear maniac so this is an easy Day 1 buy.

Hoping for a remaster of MGS1, though.

All of this set costs just $49.99! What a bargain!

So much for a June release.

As you can see, MGS4 takes up its own Blu-ray disc whereas everything else* is on the second disc. Makes you wonder about the video quality for the Digital Graphic Novels.

Also the 100 page artbook has "marketing art from around the globe", so I guess that means the various ads from magazines like OPM and Famitsu? I always loved the multi-page ad for MGS2 leading up to release. Yay for Naked Snake in Banana camo smacking his butt like the Ape Escape monkeys, from the Japanese MGS3 ad?

Here's a preview of the artbook from the Amazon.jp page for the Japanese version of the game.

*Metal Gear Solid and VR Missions are both PSone Classics download codes off PSN, of course.

So wait a second...MGS1 just comes with a code for a downloadable version of the crappy standard def quality version? Pass. If the only new thing about this set is basically extras no thanks. I already have the HD collection the only thing that would have gotten me to double dip is if MGS1 got a full HD remastering because while I absolutely love the game it looks likes garbage.

Why would a PS1 title get a HD remaster?
