It's kind of funny that fans of an overly earnest movie are getting upset over an overly earnest cover...I don't think it misrepresents the film at all.

What disappoints me is the fact that the cover is not a particularly strong sell for a movie that deserves a lot better. If I had never seen To the Wonder, and I stumbled across that cover art at a store, my eyes would simply glaze over it, because I would assume that the movie is just a standard romantic comedy/drama. This is a movie that should get more attention on the home video market, and the cover art is not the best way to go about this. It's not so much the cover as it is the font of the title, but there's something off about the photo choices as well. I'd be far more likely to pick this up off the shelf... So, it goes without saying that the film is very elliptical. It requires you to meet it half way and construct your own narrative per se. Could it not be argued that the US cover is simply representative of one of the narratives you could construct? Sure, it's not exactly a "cool" cover, but Malick was never a "cool" filmmaker to begin with.
I found this film to be the least of Malick's works. But I can't wait to own it on BluRay nonetheless. |

That cover's hilarious, it looks like one of those DTV weepies where someone dies bravely of some illness

The cover certainly does make the film look like one of those low rent overdone heartwarming romantic films. You know, the ones that show up on Lifetime a year and a half after their release.
I'm sure I'll pick this up eventually. I'm a fan of Mallick, but I couldn't get into this in the theater. A lot of that probably had to do with the fact that I had a splitting headache while watching it and was not in the frame of mind to try to dissect the narrative. I'll need to give it another shot. |

I didn't see an official thread for Malick's latest release, so I thought I'd make one.
The Blu-ray is available in the U.K., and it will be released in the U.S. on August 6th. The review is up for the U.K. release, which has a coherent cover. It is Region B locked. Not sure if the same transfer is to be expected for the U.S. release, which unfortunately has a very terrible cover. To the Wonder ![]() To the Wonder (U.K. Release) ![]() Can't wait to see this! Personally, I think the U.K. cover is a diamond compared to the U.S. cover, even if it has the studio logo and the rating tag. I think it's funny that I'm freaking out about the cover. ![]() As for the trailer, I agree. I'm glad that Malick used the trailer music in the film (from what I heard). |
