I've been listening now for quite a while. I can say that The Film Vault is by far my favorite, followed by Filmspotting. These 2 podcasts could not be more different and that is why I love them. I think the guys from the podcasts would ultimately hate the people from the other.

I have been listening to the Schmoesknow Podcast for prob a year now. They just went on a 2 month break though. They are more on the comedic side though so be ready for that. They are definitely not scholars of film or anything as the name suggests.

Some podcasts I listen to:
The Dissolve
IGN's Keepin' It Reel
NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour

I listened to more before but couldn't keep up with the updates. I do plan on adding more film podcasts as I've cut back on other podcasts that focus on other topics/subjects.

As for books, I bought 85 Years of The Oscar some months ago which is the official history book of the Academy Awards by Robert Osborne. Still going through it and its a great reference book about the Oscars each year.

Anyone with recommendations for books/podcasts about directing? Would love to learn more about the craft.

The Movie Crypt is a good podcast. It has writer and directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch. Each ep has various different guests. They have writers, directors, actors, agents, clothing designers, producers, editors. Anything you basically wanted to know about within the film industry. It's informative insider knowledge I guess you could say about the business, but very funny aswell. They also do fan commentaries for certain films once in a while.

The "How Did This Get Made?" podcast is a pretty entertaining listen I you're looking for laughs. It's Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas from FX's The League talking about terrible movies.

If you want to learn about directing you need to read Making Movies by Sydney Lumet.

I enjoy listening to this podcast and then revisiting the film that was the topic of discussion while all their jokes and observations are still fresh in my mind. They recently highlighted Mortal Kombat, one of my all-time cheesy guilty pleasures, which I revisited last night.
