How did they go so wrong with Annihilation? I did enjoy looking at Sandra Hess though.

I enjoy both films. Mortal Kombat has always been a lot of fun.

Have em both on Blu-ray and they're a lot of fun.

Scorpion & Sub-Zero still look badass

Here is a BTS video.

I could never really get into this one unfortunately. From the same era I much prefer Super Mario Bros and Double Dragon.

for me, the best adaptation is Silent Hill.
Love the creepiness of that movie and the creature and set designs recapture the game brilliantly.

Worst for me is the Resident Evil series. Good god in heaven those films are utter garbage. Im really hyped to see what Netflix does with that as a series. And here is hoping for Leon as main character

Mortal Kombat 1 I would say is my 2nd favourite.

It's still in my top 5, but it's not #1.

1) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
2) Resident Evil (2002)
3) Tomb Raider (2018)
4) Mortal Kombat
5) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

It's time for a 3rd MK movie. Either a sequel or a reboot, that fully embraces its fantasy elements like the games do. Not grounded, reality like stuff.

First one was great. Second one not as much ... But more watchable because of the laughs than the current ones

I was a fan of this movie when it was released. I was 22.

I watched it again a couple of years ago. It didn't age well for me.

In simple terms, they tried doing too much at once. Paul Anderson left to make "Event Horizon", and when "Annihilation" tanked he swore he'd never abandon a franchise film series again. That's why he stuck with all the "Resident Evil" movies, and I think wanting to work with Milla Jovovich was good motivation too.

Apart from him, the first picture's cinematographer John R. Leonetti stepped up to direct, and it was his first job in that capacity...ever. He'd done camera work for "Child's Play 3" and a trio of comedies up to that point - "Hot Shots! Part Deux", "The Mask", and "Spy Hard"...but he'd never taken full responsibility for anything focused primarily on action.

Thirdly, the sequel was deliberately aimed at hardcore gamers rather than general audiences; escalation was producer Lawrence Kasanoff's main priority above all else. He wanted everything bigger and bolder - "fights, effects, and Outworld" in his own words. This backfired for several reasons, but the convoluted script was definitely one of them. Linden Ashby refused flat-out, while Chris Casamassa opted for "Batman & Robin". Christopher Lambert and Bridgette Wilson were busy, with "Beowulf" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer", respectively.

I actually counted all the main roles in the films once, and it was staggering. The original had 12 - Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Raiden, Jax, Kano, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Kitana, Shang Tsung, and Goro. By comparison, "Annihilation" brought in 14 more - Shao Kahn, Sindel, Shinnok, Motaro, Sheeva, Jade, Mileena, Nightwolf, Cyrax, Smoke, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Rain, and Baraka. Over two dozen characters is far too many for a 95-minute action flick.
