I've long been a proponent of the 'theater experience' and I'll probably end up seeing 60-70 films in the theater this year by the end but distribution is awful right now. I want day and date digital distribution for any of these films that take months to roll out outside of the like 4 metropolis' and then only last a single weekend.

Basically this:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/re...on/id651514171

Coming out before it's meager release and it was in 1080p and 5.1 for 7 bucks. Needs to become more of the norm for films like that.

I didn't even know 70 films came to theater in a year.

I'm lucky if I see 2 a year in the theater.

Yes, that could be a good distribution model. I'd prefer not to have the box office crowd out the smaller films, however.

And I see only a handful of films a year, theatrically. Holy crap.

The answer to the question is:
Yes, 2015 WILL be the biggest year for movies ever. However, will Avengers 3 come out in the same year as Episode VIII?

Geez - you're right - what a big year. Look at all those classic 80s films that came out that year.

Pitch Perfect 2 is confirmed for 2015 as well. Does anybody else think it will do good?

Yup, not interested about anything on this list, either.

In fact, I found the whole list boring as hell. I'll get excited when I hear about new films, with new ideas.

And most of those films were original movies, I only counted three sequels. Whereas in this 2015 list, all of them are sequels. Sad.

Here's a partial list of movies that are supposed to be released in 2015: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_in_film

Here's another one: http://www.movieinsider.com/movies/-/2015/

I am only excited about Star Wars (from a trainwreck watching point of view) from those films listed.

Yeah honestly I think movies like Avengers 2 and PoTC 5 are going to underwhelm at the box office. Heck the way this year is going it might be hard for 2015 to do better than 2013.

I'm sure it will do fine but only as welll as the first (maybe a bit more now it has gained n audience on home viewing). It'll be a huge success for its budget but I didn't include it in the list above as I don't think it's a 'big' film like those.

Avengers 2 - no way. It'll be huge. Marvel will be at their peak (it's a given that Thor and Captain America will both do better with their sequels than their originals) and The Avengers is still the blockbuster of the last few years. I'm not sure what people on here will class as underwhelm (I can see a lot of people claiming that if it doesn't match the original's take, just as they did for the domestic take of Dark Knight Rises) but there's no way it won't pass a billion.

Pirates is a trickier thing, especially after Lone Ranger, but Pirates 4 disappointed domestically only to have the international take push it to be the biggest of the series worldwide. As I said above, number 5 will be coming off the rubbish number 4 but then number 4 came off the rubbish number 3. Never underestimate how much people love Jack Sparrow. I think it will do less than the 4th film but, if it doesn't hit the billion, I think it will at least get to $800m.

I had no idea a Pirates 5 had been confirmed. Yay! The Pirate series is in the same league as LOTR to me, with the 4th being the most disappointing.

Disney in my opinion will go for Avatars record with the new Star Wars. No way Avengers 2 doesn't crack a billion. Iron Man 3 just did. Those two will probably be the biggest of the year

Can't even call it with Avatar 2. I still have no clue how the first one made all that money. Lol

I wonder how well The Avenger's would've done had Iron Man 3 been released first.

Dude, there's already been over 70 this year alone!!! I have personally seen 59 already, with only like 4-5 on Redbox. The rest were ALL in theaters!!!

Maybe, but isn't Anna Kendrick refusing to return? I think you need her.

Course Brittany Snow and Anna Camp won't be back, as their characters graduated.

I think Anna Camp was confirmed to be returning, and Rebel Wilson said something about it taking place in London.

I don't know, I've just got a bad feeling with all this over saturation, personal predictions for 2015:
  • The Avengers 2 won't do as well as the first film, but will still make it to a billion.
  • Star Wars Episode VII will probably be the highest grossing film of the year. The film will also have mixed reviews.
  • Assassin's Creed will get delayed and/or have production problems.
  • Independence Day 2 will bomb.
The overload will probably cause each film to earn less than it would without the extreme competition. In any case, it should be the most profitable year in film history.

Not sure about Star Wars hitting that record. There are a lot of fans who don't want anything to do with this, especially some of those who were disappointed with the over-hyped Phantom Menace 14 years ago (who also made TPM the highest grossing film of that year). Avatar 2 or Avengers 2 IMO will be the top money machines of 2015 and POTC 5 and ID4 2 will probably bomb. I don't see MI5 being a tremendous success unless it is comparable in quality to MI4 and the PR campaign is effective.

Also, studio advertising campaigns will be extremely aggressive because of the competition for ticket sales with so many potential hits scheduled for release and inevitable overlap in release windows. Perhaps they'll even get aggressive toward one-another in their advertising (I'd certainly like to see that just for laughs).

By the way, all of the major releases are sequels; obvious cash grabs for the studios.

The Marvel, Avatar, and Star Wars franchises all have the audience to generate massive income, but ID4 will not due to Fox's horrid reputation for bad studio-produced sequels. POTC 5, given POTC 4, John Carter, and The Lone Ranger's box office performances (and quality of those films) will not be successful.

My top 3 box office predictions of 2015:
#1: Avengers 2
#2: Avatar 2
#3: Star Wars Episode VII
