metalpak, ironpak, steelbook, digibook---any of them are fine with me, i collect them all. i'm just happy anytime the USA gets something in any of these collectable cases. i'm hoping for more and not b!tching about which kind it is. we are so behind the rest of the collectable world for these things, so, lets support them and hope they get to do more releases like this no matter which it is.

my 2 cents of course!

Very much agree. I love when the steelbook crowd, almost feels threatened by the existance of the Metalpak.

Nobody's feeling threatened, I just don't like the fact that MPs scratch/dent really easy compared to steelbooks. Plus, I've broken a couple metalpaks by closing them wrong and breaking off the hinges. Grow up

Well as long as it doesn't look like a metal pack spine I'm in since I prefer this artwork to the UK and European versions.

I just don't like the look of the spine.

It's more that Metalpaks are an inferior, less quality design. If I'm paying a premium over the amaray I want what I buy to be worth the extra cash.

First of all I never named anyone specifically, but since you feel you needed to defend your position, that's pretty telling.
Second, I wasn't aware that stating an opinion was a sign that I need to "grow up". I suppose I really touched a nerve. Oh my.
Third, steelbooks: dent, ding, scrarch, chip, slice, etc just as easily as metalpaks. As you pointed out the only difference between the two is the spine. Again both have their disadvantages. Steelbooks can have the spince off center, peeling off, or both. Metalpaks take just a modicum of skill to open/close without any problems...at least in my experience.

Steelbook has certainly done what they can to abolish any other metal case in the US. Which is why I'm always happy to see other metal case puchasing options. Having too many options is never a bad thing.
But that's a conversation best left to the grown ups, methinks!

LOL. $9.99 - $14.99 is a premium? C'mon.
As I pointed out, both cases have their strong/weak points.

I'm more of a slipcover and digibook collector, but this will be a nice addition to my growing steelbook/metalpack collection

Not all metal case releases cap out at $14.99. Metalpaks have a weak spine in comparison to Steelbooks, which makes it harder to keep them in good condition. Additionally, the Metalpak spine is less aesthetically pleasing to many customers (including myself). For these two reasons alone, if a Steelbook and Metalpak option are available, most people will opt for the Steelbook because they know the spine will be more readable and look better on the shelf and they don't risk breaking it just from opening it a few times. For those who have children, this becomes even more important since kids can be a bit rough sometimes. This also applies to inconsiderate guests.

I never said they do, but there are many examples that fall in that price range.
As I said, they both have their weak/strong points.
I will definitely support Metalpaks, because I like them, and also in the hopes that Metalpaks(and other metal case options) give Steelbook some healthy competition. Having only one metal case supplier feed an entire country is never a good thing.
As for unwatned hands on metal caseing, my 2½ year old got his hands on a few my my metal cases...wouldn't you know it was a steelbook that suffered damage, with the spine plate becoming slightly dislodged.

I'm all for competition and still wish Viva was around. Unfortunately they were squashed in court. They were probably the best competitive option compared to Steelbooks.

I think it's safe to say that kids can damage either case if they really want to, my view is simply that metal beats plastic in this regard. Still a shame that your poor Steelbook took a beating.

Yes the Viva cases were quite nice. It's shame that Steelbook smashed them from existance. So keep the Metalpaks coming, I say.
Never fear the steelbook was easily fixed.

Disappointed this is a metal pak and not a steelbook. I guess I'll just import this one.
