I'm definitely getting the 3D version for this, it looked great in IMAX, especially for a conversion.
There was only 10 minutes cut.

From yesterday:
Quote:
It's Monday morning, and the victor between "Pacific Rim" and "Grown Ups 2" has been determined....and it's "Despicable Me 2." Yes, in the great showdown that was set to take place this weekend between Guillermo Del Toro's monsters and Adam Sandler's farts, it was the minions who wound up winning. That being said, a third place finish likely wasn't what Warner Bros. was hoping for with their $190 million movie (though it did brisk business overseas) and it'll interesting to see if this turns into the franchise everyone involved was hoping for or not. The next couple of weeks will determine that, but until then, Del Toro has teased what might appear in part two, and brace yourself for some technical nerd talk.

"There was a line that I deleted from the movie that will come back if I do a second movie. Newt explained that the Kaiju are not carbon based organisms like humans, they are silicon based. The only part I left of his explanation is that they have a hive mentality, meaning that if you 'drift' with a Kaiju brain, you are drifting with every Kaiju alive," he told Bleeding Cool. "Depending on the duration of the drift the information might be complete or incomplete, but the Kaiju know everything the human drifts with them knows. That’s as much as I can tell you without spoiling the sequel. Well, that’s providing there is a sequel – if there isn’t one, I promise, I’ll spill the beans."

We're not sure how any of this even remotely constitutes a spoiler or being close to a spoiler -- all the drifting stuff in "Pacific Rim" didn't make much sense -- or how the silicon factor plays in, but perhaps it will make much more sense if/when he reveals where the sequel would have gone. And while Del Toro has admitted that his friend and filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu helped him cut ten minutes out of the movie, don't expect a longer version on the eventual DVD.

"This is my director’s cut. There will not be an extended cut right now, we’re not planning on it, but there will be deleted scenes and they were deleted for a reason," he said, adding that he'll be recording the commentary soon but that this DVD extras as a whole might be leaner, because the "DVD and Blu-ray market is shrinking so we can’t be as extravagant as we were with other discs in the past."

But will some of that content include the alternate closing scenes to the movie that he shot? As Del Toro tells Badass Digest, he filmed three different scenarios for the concluding moments with Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. "When I was working on the movie we had three or four different versions of the relationship between Charlie and Rinko because I wanted to see if I could make a story about two people liking each other without having to end in a kiss," he explained. "So when I shot the ending we shot three versions. I’ve never done this before, but instinctively I thought we should do three versions. We did one version where they kiss and it almost felt weird. They’re good friends, they’re pals, good colleagues."

So why did he hold off on the smooch? "But the thing that stayed in the movie is the hint that there may be a love story one day, but it’s not there yet," he teased. Maybe in the sequel perhaps...if it gets made.

Interesting comment here. Certainly seeing this now with bluray with many discs now forgoing any real effort in extras. Just look at what Disney are including. Kinda sad to see things like Warner's movie experience disappear. I was always a huge fan of PiP content. Seeing as streamed content includes no extras, it looks like we are seeing the end of this kind of content.

Damn. I'm especially sad since Del Toro took a lot of interest in the extras for his movie DVD's and it wasn't just a bunch of people patting each other's backs Oh well, there's the commentary - it will be awesome, I'm thinking.

It was a fun movie with great visuals, but somewhat bad acting. The character Beckett had a tone that felt like he was narrating every single line of his. The plot was also kind of dumb, but averagely dumb compared to all the other apocalyptic films. It also kind of copied the Avengers (nukes, portal, floating up/down). I kind of wanted to see more of the early years. They'll probably make a prequel explaining the origins of the Kaju in depth. For all the plot inconsistencies and dumbness, who cares! It was fun!

There was definately a child like and fun nature to how del toro directs the types of films. It's quite amazing how he comes up with these fantastical worlds with such intracacy, yet how he actualy executes the story line can be quite child like. Certainly good fun but for me I was hoping and expecting more robot v monster battles.

I agree with Oscar though. There hasn't even been a Preorder link for this yet and already redundant threads ares starting to appear. First, it used to be threads with preorders which was ok now all the sudden its just everyone trying to rush out a movie simply to be the first, without proper release date or preorder information

Redundant threads pop up even when a legit thread has been in circulation for weeks/months. The thread is going to happen, better sooner rather than later. That way you can merge all those redundant threads into one. 2 birds!

I'm currently in Colombia and I've seen a few street vendors selling "Blu-ray" copies of this. Somehow I think the "quality" and "legality" of these copies are questionable.

Anyway, this will be a day and date purchase...not to mention a day off.

I guess, but then again this thread remains pointless. No release date, no cover, no special features, no preorder link and not even a rumored date, ummm yeah what's the point?

That happens in most of the threads on here. It's all about building up the excitement.

Thoroughly enjoyed this over-bloated robot fest. Much better than Transformers (and Godzilla) until the "Aussie" characters opened their mouths! What LUDICROUS and ATROCIOUS accents!! The whole cinema cracked up laughing. It was the worst "attempt" at an Aussie accent and Del Toro's casting producer should be shot!

Yea there are many perfectly talented NZ actors, who the Aussies have claimed, who could have been in this film

I agree, but figure there are greater travesties in life.
For big "summer blockbuster" action films, like this, I actually don't mind an early thread in the NA BD section. For all the scuttlebutt posted, you might get some interesting info you wouldn't receive had it been posted in the graveyard...err...I mean the Wishlist forum. Now for catalog releases that have not been officially announced, I don't think they should be in the NA BD thread. As that is pure speculation, that clings to every scrap of rumor that floats around. At least that's how I look at it.
Heck, by the time we finish there might be a preorder up, and it would all become a moot point.

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX 3D. I expected to enjoy it, but I ended up loving it! Awesome film, and amazing 3D. Definitely a day one purchase for me!

With a newborn I don't have time to go to the theatre anymore.

That said, I'm blind buying this in 3D on release day. I can't wait!

Just got back from the 10 PM showing. I (we) hated this. I also hated the first Transformers (never saw 2 or 3), which many people also liked (and to which I felt this was similar). With both flicks, I never knew who was fighting who. It's just a mash up of 2 things banging into each other. Cheesy dialogue,story...and so on and so forth.

I appear to be in the minority here, but I will not be picking this one up (or watching it ever again).

Maybe we'll get an extended cut that actually has some backstory on the monsters.
