I used to think the same thing

WTF with all these stupid music concert thing-a-ma-gigies that they are coming out with.....

UNTIL I saw the announcement of Shakira...."I MUST GET THAT"

At that point I realized that if Shakira can get me to buy a concert, I can imagine that Celine Dion and Elton John can seduce someone to buy them

Well CDs are limited in the sound range, they only focused on the frequencies the human ear can hear, but relatively recent studies have shown that the ranges we can not hear affect what we do hear, and therefore adding those frequencies enhances the sound experience.
Also don't forget all these with uncompressed sound are also in Surround Sound!
On top of that, you get to spent $30 for an HD concert with surround sound and a great view (cameras right on stage, et al), or you could spent $100 and go to a concert where you sit in the back next to the sweaty guy that smells bad and and your view of awful and you can barely hear anything cause its too loud....
I'll take the $30 concert please.

i would kill for more concerts on blu-ray. Don´t know, have you ever seen HiDef footage of music? It is really great, especially if it´s shot on HiDef video, like the artists are standing right behind your screen. Great stuff, really. And then the high-rez audio!

I think i'm even more excited about the concerts than movies.

I don't buy them or care either. However, I don't do concerts. I like the perfected work and really don't need to "be there."

I don't use CDs these days (ipod).

If you're into going to concerts, then I imagine BLU concerts is a must.

I have never had any desire to purchase one until they have come out in Blu-ray. The two I want are AC/DC and Queen. Any thoughts or insights?

Ditto, i am not a big rock fan, but the AC/DC looks awesome(from the PS3 preview) so i will be getting that. I have never own concerts on DVD either, what got me interested was the new Dish Network HD music channel, they play a few concerts on HD and wow, is a big difference, anyone that has not seen one you can't really judge, if you like music concerts on HD will blow you away.

If you've got a good HD display and you're sound is set properly, a concert in HD is incredible. The resolution is better than on a film because it was shot on HD videotape and the sound is usually better - richer, better steering with less reverb (echo) than at the actual concert. I've got the Dave Matthews, the Pat Metheny and I'll be getting the David Gilmore. If you doubt the medium, you need to experience a good demo from an independant store. The big chains have lousy set-ups. The subs aren't adjusted properly, the panels usually have the wrong aspect ratio and have the contrast and color cranked up. The smaller independants will have things tweaked much better in separate rooms as opposed to in the middle of a brightly lit sales floor.

iPod???????? What the Hell are you doing with inferior sound quality when you've got a presumably good sound system? Man, you don't know what you're missing! If you bought a proper surround system, you obviously want good sound. You bough BD because you want great PQ... you're doing yourself and the system an injustice by running an iPod, believe me!

I'm not even all that huge a music fan in general, but I find them mesmorizing. I'll watch people who's music I dont usually listen regularly as well. HD concerts just hypnotize me. Feels like you are there in the crowd.
Minus the smell of reefer.

Does anybody know the aspect ratio of the AC/DC concert. I just wish the most recent Police concern would be released in Blu-ray with lossless sound. Best concert I have ever seen.

I believe the AC/DC show is 1.85:1 or 1.78:1. I wouldn't mind picking up the recent Police tour on BD or Van Halen for that matter. I heard a lot of good things about both.

I have no problem with concerts on Blu-ray, but it seems more of a niche market. I dont see these selling too well and I am a bit annoyed that other niche titles I would enjoy are not being released on Blu but these are released just about every month.

Default Hit or miss with the concert DVDs/Blu rays

Ok first of all if you even think of asking the question "Should I buy ACDCs blu ray in concert" the answer is a resounding YESSSS! I watched this with my best friend and wife (talk about short attention span theater) and they loved it, they even applauded after several songs. I cranked up the bass and my house was rocking. Ive got a pretty good system with a decent sub. So after you get this look me up to say "thank you".

Dave matthews blu ray was amazing as well

The last waltz enthralled me and it was filmed before I was born.

NIN blu ray was great but not my favorite.

Another favorite would be Gorillaz-demon days on DVD, you think you know this group until you put this in:
childrens choir, asian lady playing some strange harp like instrument, violins, many excellent singers, nenah cherry, de la soul, a famous cuban singer, random rappers, just entertaining from beginning to end.

Some others I liked- Harry Connick JR, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra

some others not so much- Rage Against the machine-mexico city, Neil Diamond (some 80s concert, hurts the eyes with the teased hair, shoulder pads and pastel colors)

Default oh BTW....

I have about 400 dvds/blu rays (just started my blu ray collection) and about 25 concert dvds/blu rays and the concert discs get played about 2-1 over the movies. There is much more replay value in a really good concert DVD/blu ray.
