i ment Stadalone Blu Ray players. From other maufactures. $999 seems to be the defacto price, but it only takes one company to relase one at $600 to set the bar for mid range players.

But as for quality of Blu-Ray playback on PS3. It all depends on Sony. To play incredibly realistic graphics at 1080p takes a lot of computational horse power. PS3 will be faster than most High End PCs. DVD playback on PCs with hardware accelleration will look somewhat better than a standard progresive scan DVD player. With CELL and RSX, Sony can keep updating Blu-ray playback software to match those on the PC to have unpresedented Blu-Ray playback quality.

However i feel PS3 will have a presence on the Home Theater market. 2 Millon PS3s at launch are going to sell out no problem, and that will add 2 million new Blu-ray movie customers. they show it to friends and family that may get PS3 or a standalone Blu-ray player.

well it'll have an impact but I doubt most people are going to buy a ps3 and put it into their theater room, or buy it and integrate it into the home theater plasma set up. The point being is that it won't be something that supports rs-232 or other control options making it a no go for many people who would otherwise consider it as a player. It will be a game system that can play movies for some people but for most people there going to want to be able to control it easily with some sort of remote and in the high end section that remote is primarily going to be a universal one.
