Probably just saying that it's not in stock in any JB store. Good to hear you got a copy though. I'm hoping to watch mine tomorrow night. Can't wait to check it out in full.

I am looking at the "new" coverart for the anniversary edition, and I think that I need to customize my own version to correct the obvious mistake.
What they did in the new coverart is to rotate the image so that the tilted edges from the original image line up with the horizontal. Unfortunately, the image itself is photographed at an angle, like someone didn't use a tripod. Therefore, the current image is an obvious mistake, and every time you look at the image, you will remind yourself: "That is an obvious mistake. Someone forgot to use a tripod. etc." |

Long story short (for those who have not come from Aussie Banter thread). Popped in The Fugitive this morning to watch a great film from the 90's. Not MPEG-2 codec, but VC-1 (still lossy audio).
A question to y'all from a previous post on other thread, can I get a "Hey yeah" I got the VC-1 or a "Hell no" MPEG-2. (Apparently VC-1 may be ported from HD DVD :shrug; The VC-1 caught me a bit by surprise. A while ago, I put a disc in and I recalled it was VC-1 and thought nothing of it (watched, but fell asleep). Didn't even notice MPEG-2 spec when I added to my collection. Read in the "Re-mastered" review there are VC-1's out there. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F.../72224/#Review Also discusses the VC-1 repressing in this US The Fugitive thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=88314 So, on to pics/codes etc. (haven't used photo sharing sites for yonks, so please check out attachements). Photo attached is of VC-1 codec in iconic scene (PS3 info). Watch lossy's on my PS3 (Phat 40GB), as it only bitstreams DTS/DD core anyhow (converts lossless to PCM). |

Lastly, attached is a pic of the disc art.
BD-25. Serial number - A0101256819-A511 and to the right there is a 2000. Don't know if that will mean anything, as on US posts, serial numbers appear to be the same for MPEG-2 and VC-1. ![]() Would do BD info, but we have a MAC and I haven't tried to hook up my portable Samsung BD drive yet (although I may yet tonight). Please post here or in Aussie general banter, should you have a VC-1. ![]() |

Yeah...
![]() Overall, the VC-1 transfer wasn't bad. But you could see that in some darker scenes, whoever prepared the pic was scared excessive grain may be perceived as noise. Thus, in some parts of the film, the pic looks a bit washed out and DNR'd. Interesting to note that The Sopranos had a VC-1 with S6 BD release, at the start of the HD wars (was on HD DVD too). Then the box set came out and S6 was coded AVC. While reviewers have pointed out that HBO used the same source for the AVC, it does look better and more filmic. The VC-1, while still very proficient, looks more akin to a cable broadcast, better and with fine detail, but clearly digitally manipulated. You would be hard pressed to choose whether S6 was done on film or digital. Now S2 suffers from less EE and digital manipulation than S1, but has a lot of marks/nicks from the source. Probably because The Sopranos was edited in old school style up until S3 (when some kind of early DI/scanning of film was utiised). To The Fugitive then and the VC-1 transfer... While it doesn't look polished like The Sopranos S6 VC-1, you can still see film grain throughout. Only noticed one "black mark" in a corner at one stage and generally the print was very clean. Very content I got the VC-1. Won't bother to import new AVC (despite having lossless audio), but if it does get an Aussie release, will pick the AVC remaster and gift the VC-1. |

I bought the Australian mpeg-2 version and as I recall it's 1.77 ratio on a BD-25 with Dolby Digital 5.1, and the Australian mpeg-2 release should be the same as the American mpeg-2 release. I think the VC-1 version was released a few years after the mpeg-2 version, and is presumably still 1.77 on a BD-25 with Dolby Digital 5.1.
I never saw the VC-1 version, but I read about it years ago and as I recall it's pretty much the same, it's just in VC-1 instead of mpeg-2. Not sure if anyone has seen all the versions released in Australia and thus knows the differences between the mpeg-2 and VC-1 versions? Ultimately, though, the 20th anniversary edition from America is the version to get - 1.78 ratio, AVC, BD-50, 5.1 DTS-HD MA and has new special features. This version was supposedly released in Australia in a FUGITIVE/U.S. MARSHALS double pack, but you probably can't even find it anymore. Might as well get the 20th anniversary edition from America because it doesn't cost much, or wait for a 4k edition. |
