The band did their best Springsteen impersonation last night in San Diego and played 3 hours and 25 minutes. I personally had mixed feelings about the show, although from what I've read many thought it ranked up there with some of their best shows. Wouldn't go that far as quantity doesn't necessarily equal quality. I will say Ed's voice sounded better than it has in years and the band was super tight.
I took the night off from taping, but a friend did the deed. Had great seats since my wife has been in the 10 Club since 1993. Setlist for anyone interested: 01 Intro 02 Pendulum 03 Nothingman 04 Sometimes 05 Why Go 06 Lightning Bolt 07 Mind Your Manners 08 All Night 09 Given To Fly 10 Tremor Christ 11 In Hiding 12 Setting Forth 13 Swallowed Whole 14 Army Reserve 15 Even Flow 16 Insignificance 17 Sirens 18 Better Man 19 Spin the Black Circle 20 Light Years 21 Porch Encore 1: 22 -banter- 23 Sleight of Hand 24 Speed of Sound 25 Just Breathe 26 Sleeping By Myself 27 Severed Hand 28 In My Tree 29 Rearviewmirror Encore 2: 30 -banter- 31 Leaving Here 32 Black 33 Do the Evolution 34 Alive 35 Baba O’Riley 36 -banter- 37 Yellow Ledbetter 38 Rockin’ in the Free World |

I thought the LA shows were great, with night 1 being a little better in my opinion. Both shows ran just under 3 hours. For these shows we had the GA floor fanclub area and I hung out towards the back of that. My friend taped night 1 and I did night 2. Btw, if anyone wants to hear, feel free to PM me and let me know whether you prefer MP3 of FLAC.

I've been listening to Pearl Jam lately and getting nostalgic for the early 1990's. I feel all the albums from Rock bands released between January 1990 and December 1994 were the best, certainly the most creative time in 1990's music. I haven't heard such great work since.
For me, personally, Ten, vs., and Vitalogy are Pearl Jam's best works, each album different from each other, too. No Code had a few good tracks, Yield I liked, I never heard Binaural, I remember liking Riot Act when it was the current album, and I really dug the Lost Dogs compilation. Then, something happened. I bought the Avocado on the day of its release, not knowing at first that there was even an album coming. I started to listen and I just couldn't pay attention and actually listen. The first track passed through my ears like background elevator music. Couldn't get into the album. Was there something wrong with me? Did other people feel the same way? From that point on, I didn't bother with Backspacer or Lightning Bolt. Now, I feel like I may have to give Avocado another chance and catch up on the albums I missed. Now, onto why I'm in this thread right now: speaking of Ten, I recently listened to the Legacy Edition of Ten. I know that disc 1 is supposed to be the original album remastered and disc 2 is Brendan O'Brian's re-mix that the band commissioned. Listening to disc 1, however, it seems to me that the original album was "tampered", as in, I know it's supposed to be remastered, but this is not how I remember Ten sounding back in the day. Listening to the remaster of vs. as well, I'm getting the same feeling that perhaps the first discs from 20 or so years ago were the best those albums sounded. If there is someone, anyone, familiar with both the original mastering of both albums (Ten, in particular) and their remastered counterparts, would you kindly explain what went on? love the band. i am so old that bought 'ten' when it came out and been fan since and own all the albums, dvds, blu's ... etc
BUT they are know to tour a lot. but. they have been to Finland only once - when supporting Neil Young ... no headliners shows. WTF. did Finnish beer put you off or something ... as they were pretty drunk in the show ![]() come back ! |

For me, I prefer all the reverb from the 1991 release over the clean sound from the remaster. Because that way is how I and other people got to know the band back then. The remaster's clean sound comes off as sterile to me, and the remaster has so much compression and remastered too loudly. With today's technology, you would think there was a way to make it louder without compression.
U2's remasters did it right without brickwalling. |

I cannot even listen to the original mix anymore. The reverb may be how we got to know the band, but my love of everything since Ten has shown me that the sound of Ten wasn't them at all. I love the Redux mix and it's all I listen to anymore. I find it transitions into Vs. and Vitalogy much better now.

Hardcore fan, love everything they have done. Love the bands that helped form PJ and also Eddie's solo work. As far as the remasters go I never bother with them, I like to stick with what I grew accustomed to, plus with a lot of them I think the originals sound better anyways.

Got my tickets to their first performance ever in Tulsa, OK for this Fall the moment they went on sale Friday morning. Pretty excited--I've never seen them live before and they'll be supporting their best album in nineteen years.
