I managed to capture what my Samsung plasma does to subtitles and icons. If you're a gamer the pictures are from Battlefield 2. Usually the icon or text starts off glitch then goes into it's proper shape. It's nearly always white or light grey.

Chip, that is pretty bad! Have you been in contact with Samsung at all?

They're sticking to their guns with doing nothing to help. I've tried calling the Office of the President, but get bounced around from the operator to a hold line that I either just get hung up on or have to leave a message. So far, they haven't bothered to call me back. I'm not going to give up, though.

If all else fails, I may get the service tech to come out. I would like to think he'll know pretty quickly that it's not burn in and help get the ball rolling. In the long run, the price of the service call (if I even have to pay one, I'd try to get Samsung to pay it after they see it's not burn-in) is a lot better than the extra money for a new set.

Second repair agent is a more clueless than the first for mine. Again "no fault found" quoting this little gem of wisdom

you can not adjust Greyscale on modern TV's, that is set in the factory
..................oh yeah well WTF do we have colour and white balance controls for and why do we have ISF & THX calibrators around the world, why can I buy any number of meters specifically designed fro Greyscale calibration................and the worst of it is my retailer believes them.
This situation beggars belief.....not a wonder the AV industry is in such a state.

I haven't contacted Samsung as originally I thought it was a PlayStation issue as I only noticed it with game icons but since then I've noticed it on end-credits when the fades to black. My TV is well out of warranty but I think it would be worth contacting them to see what they say. I was pleased I was able to capture it with my digital camera. I'll try and get a picture of end-credits too.

I managed to take a few pictures of credits. This happens pretty much every time but I need to check them out on my BD player and set-top-box. The bottom pictures are when the distortion has settled down.

that is ridiculous!... does it only happen on beginning/end credits or will it happen anytime there is only text on the screen?... that sucks that it is out of warranty but if you can find the right part that needs to be replaced likely it won't be too expensive... most of the internal parts are just small circuit boards and likely won't cost much, the expensive part is the panel which I doubt has anything to do with your problem

Any Black and White, or Snow scene is tinted Pink & Green. Thing is I know a little about calibration etc and showed the problem occurring on Greyscale patterns and still he said this was normal.
I asked how the TV was now supposed to be calibrated using WB controls etc and he did not seem to have a clue as to what I was on about.

I had that problem with my Samsung plasma then it died about a year and a half later. Before that Panasonic plasma died after after 3 years. Now I am on to a LG plasma. Less than 8 months old. Lets see how long this last me.

It happens when text or icons are displayed on a black background. If you scan back to the start of the credits it even happens again so it's almost guaranteed to glitch.

I'm going to contact Samsung this week and double-check my other HD equipment to see if it glitches with them too. I've wondered if it's a PS3 issue but I posted in a PlayStation thread and no-one else has experienced the same issues.

Would like to chime in here. I have a Samsung 51inch 3D Plasma tv. I loved this thing. The image quality is insane! Can't recall the exact model number but I think it's a 2012 so I'm definitely out of warranty. Whenever the screen flashes to white in either a movie or a game a patch of pink pixels shows up. It's almost as if the tv can't handle the white. It's very noticeable at times but doesn't happen in all the white space. Only blotches here and there. It more of a pain for it to happen than anything else. I would love to call Samsung and try to get a replacement but they wouldn't do that if it's out of warranty would they?

Nope. That's why it pays to get a warranty (from the manufacturer) when you buy the set.

I have noticed a bit of a pink hue on my screen when the picture is white.

I've had two Samsung Plasma'a and I didn't think I would go back to them,I had issues with my last set(brightness pops)

Did you have problems with your first Samsung TV and if so, why did you buy another one?

Yeah the brightness pops.....the last update seemed to basically eradicate them.
That was before my daughter cracked the screen.

Since I needed to buy a new TV I did look at all my options, the Samsung I finally bought had very good reviews and it gave me a larger screen for my money.

There was no mention of and issues regarding it handling whites.

It's called diffusion, it's a pretty common problem with Samsung Plasmas. It can usually be fixed with a voltage adjustment.

I noticed something odd the other day, I have a similar fuzz issue in the top portion of the screen, whenever the screen goes white I get the fuzz. But the other day I had the TV's remote in my hand and I pressed INFO. I'm sure I'd be told the fuzz was burn-in of some kind but when I pressed INFO all the fuzz at the same level as the information box disappeared! I can't see it be burn-in if it disappears like that, I think it's definitely something to do with the way the TV freaks-out when it gets presented with a white screen!

Your images are no longer showing up. But it is very common to have tints across a screen. This goes for lcd and plasma. Usually until you get to the higher end displays such problems exist to varying degrees (especially in sub $1000 plasmas) This cannot be calibrated out, which is maybe what he meant (as fixing one part of the screen would just push the problem in another part of the screen due to the uniformity issue the panel has). It does sound like you have an extreme case of it though as it should be rarely noticeable with content. Kind of like dithering, every plasma has it, but unless it is frequently noticeable it is just an inherent 'issue' with the tech.

Hi, yes it is and that is normal. But this was I pink tint that was very noticeable. Thankfully my retailer eventually agreed this was unacceptable and I now have a Panasonic ST60 PDP.

PS
Cleared my pics out some time ago, so I no longer have them.
