5/5.
Hysterical. Gut-busting. Heartwarming. Believable. This film barely gave me a second to catch my breath because the jokes kept on coming. My 10:05am showing had about 45 people in it and everyone was constantly laughing. There wasn't anyone in there who stayed silent the entire time. A lot of reviews signaled the third act dried the film up but I literally did not feel a shift in tone whatsoever. It all seemed a very natural progression and the atypical RomCom end plot. Loved Amy, Loved Bill. REALLY Loved Brie Larson as her level-headed sister Kim. Tilda Swinton's character annoyed me but I loved seeing her as the Miranda Priestly-esque magazine editor and glammed up; she did the role perfectly no matter how much I hated her. John Cena's scene in the theatre where he kept throwing out gay themed insults had me dying. Like, I was almost keeled over from him telling the guy "I'LL MEET YOU OUTSIDE. I'LL BE THE CLOSEST ONE ON GRINDR!". I really could not find a single fault in the movie; it was hysterical, heartwarming. I loved it. Will be seeing it again on Tuesday. This is the funniest thing I've seen all year. What an ensemble. One of my favorites of the year. Amy Schumer along with Bill Hader, LeBron James, Tilda Swinton, John Cena, and Colin Quinn all smart, inspired casting.
The final scene was too lovely. ![]() Who would of figured that Jason Statham in SPY and LeBron James here would deliver two of the funniest supporting performances of the year. x) |

Schumer wrote the screenplay and the movie is entirely focused around her character (there's even a couple scenes with her character doing voiceover). You'd have to really love Apatow to consider seeing this. But for anybody else who likes--or has no strong opinion of--Amy Schumer it's a good watch.

Though already on the popular-culture radar as a gifted, at times divisive comic and writer due to her series on Comedy Central, Amy Schumer boldly establishes herself as a true-blue film star in the risqué, yet heartfelt Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow, the godfather of the mainstream American comedy in the 21st century. She plays another Amy, a hard-living, fidelity-averse journalist who is unsure how to react when she develops a genuine romantic interest in an interview subject, an orthopedic surgeon for celebrity athletes (Bill Hader, sweet and subdued). This is instantly recognizable as an Apatow film. I say this as a compliment and as a modest criticism: it runs long, pursuing a few characters and subplots past their natural expiration date, and much of third act functions as a halfhearted soap-opera paean to redemption via domesticity, a crowd-pleasing, if rather square and predictable pet theme of Apatow's. Other stretches of the film are supercharged with uproarious improvisational flair, however, and Schumer is awarded ample time to create a dynamic, flawed, sexy, and vital heroine, a three-dimensional character both driven and haunted by the depth of her desire and exuberant enjoyment of life.
B+ I have to say, though: I seem to be in an extreme minority, but I was not overly impressed by LeBron James. Maybe because I do not follow sports at all and have no special feeling for him beyond knowing, "Oh, right. LeBron James is a famous athlete. I have heard his name a lot." I thought he seemed uncomfortable and self-conscious in front of the camera. I only laughed a lot at Hader's reactions during their basketball scene. Oh, and those Daniel Radcliffe/Marisa Tomei bits are just deadly bad. |

I'm a huge fan of Amy's but it certainly wasn't as good as I expected it to be, unfortunately. I was so extremely pumped to see it but, as has been mentioned, there's this 1/4 of the movie that just drags. It would have been much better had they changed certain things because, at times, it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be.
I'd give it a C+. |

While I enjoyed this film a lot, it must be said: the intervention scene with
[Show spoiler] is AWFUL and goes on forever. It screams, "This belongs on the cutting-room floor."Total dead air in my theatre beyond a few meager laughs. |

1/5. Two awful movies shoehorned together:
1) The first 2/3 is an uninspired low brow comedy. No wit or clever jokes, everything is lowest common denominator. Jokes are repeated over and over and run into the ground ( [Show spoiler] ). Lots of pointless cameos.2) The last 1/3 is a serious romantic drama with all the awful tropes you would expect ( [Show spoiler] ). Even worse, there's no chemistry between the leads.Amy's acting is very stiff and she wears a smirk for most of the movie. But even worst is Lebron James acting. Please never let him act in a movie again. Unfortunately this is yet another 2+ hour comedy that drags on and on. There's at least 45 minutes of filler in this movie. The only highlight is Dave Attell who steals every scene he is in. The guy is comedy gold. Mainstream critics giving this movie rave reviews just shows how much political correctness has seeped into film critism. If this movie had starred Adam Sandler, it would have been ripped to shreds. But since it's a comedy with a female lead, I think critics are afraid of the backlash if they are too critical. |

![]() Plus, that ending was so damn hilarious. ![]() I gave it a 4/5. Was leaning more towards a 3/5 or 3.5/5 because the tone was all over the place (much like Funny People, my personal least favorite), but the reasons I mentioned before made it shoot up to a solid 4/5. When the comedy was good, it was really great. I'd even be down to see more of Amy Schumer in future comedies. |

This was Apatows weakest film but it was still a winner.
Give it about 3.5/5 because the last 1/3 of the film was pretty lame and unfunny but the first 2/3 were overall impressive and funny. I dont like Schumer or Bill Hader but the movie still worked for me. Not perfect but a fun watch |
