MrBlonde, I know what you mean about them just focusing on the negatives but the Oscars don't really shine on the positive. The Oscars are Hollywood promoting themselves. If this was any other situation, we would be laughing at them - "Iphone - Phone of the Year Awards - Presented by Apple". They are not looking at the industry as a whole and saying "this was the best film made in the past year", they are looking at the ones that people submit and god only knows what goes on behind the scenes. How many times have you watched it and someone won an award that left you scratching your head, or someone isn't even nominated? I'll give them credit, they do get some attention over to films that wouldn't normally get it but in the end they are the industry promoting themselves and far from unbiased. At least with the Razzies, you know what to expect.
Yeah, I don't really care about the Oscars at all either, but shedding a positive light on SOME films is at least one positive.

It's not only that, but the Oscars offer some form of preservation towards the films nominated as well.

You saying Grown-Ups 2 shouldn't be preserved?

I quit watching award shows years ago and I just find it hard to buy into them when a movie is just coming out and already they are telling how it is nominated for 15 awards - kind of tells the audience they should be watching this film instead of letting them decide if it is good or not. I just think that anytime and industry is promoting itself, something is up. But hey, to each their own. Razzies don't stop me from watching movies either.

The Razzies are always lazily chosen and they never rock the boat with any sort of controversial nomination. They pick a handful of films that have been critically drubbed and turn up on every critics worst of the year list and then they automatically nominate many of actors who starred in them.

Diana would have actually deserved a worst film nomination, but Naomi Watts did her best with a terrible screenplay. I'm no great fan of Halle Berry's acting, but she was perfectly fine in The Call. But both apparently gave nothing but bad performances last year, simply because they had the misfortune of appearing in Movie 43.

Sharknado is a TV movie and therefore doesn't qualify. If they nominated that one, they would have to nominate every Asylum movie ever made, because they are intentionally made to be bad. They are pre-fabricated cult movies for people too lazy to look for the real thing.

Do you mean the Razzies just focus on the negative, or some of the wannabe movie critics on this site ?

Well if we're gonna set the bar for Sandler THAT low, then I suppose you're right. But Grown Ups 2 was absolutely dreadful. One of his worst movies ever. And that's saying something considering he also starred in The What-a-bore.

Come to think of it, I might rank Little Nicky ahead of Grown Ups 2 for one reason. Little Nicky actually had a plot. I didn't know what the hell the point of Grown Ups 2 was.

what? the public loves it, best film ever made!

Everyone is right that the Razzies pick things that are obviously bad and don't really choose any surprises. But isn't that the point? Hollywood has the Oscars to show how good a film they can make yet they ignore the fact that for Every Unforgiven or Zero Dark Thirty they put out, they also put out crap like this. You can't take the good without the bad.

Plus you end up with a problem - if you something that did well is nominate for worst film(say Into Darkness), the public will easily name off these films as being worse. Hard to argue when there are crappy films and then really crappy films.

No, they were the worst. Inappropriate Comedy might complete the trifecta of shit, but those two fully deserve it.

Any Asylum film is WAAAAY better than After Earth and Lone Ranger. Alien: Origin might be the exception but in general Asylum films are a quick hilarious sit.

If you are easily amused, maybe. I just find them boring.
