I could see ragging on the quality, sure, but why have someone who clearly doesn't like an existing "classic" review it? I mean, it's not like a new film which needs that sort of personal judgment for folks wondering if they're gonna go see it. "a simple tale of a conflicted man who can't keep it in his pants"? Yeah, right, and The Godfather was simply an Italian mob soap opera without the comedy.

I thought it was a very accurate review of both the film and the disc. This is hardly a film on the same scale as The Godfather, there are a lot of folks out there who would have never seen it.

GOT mine in the mail TODAY. I always remember seeing this on TV in the 70s and thinking, "This is a really STUPID film." Then I saw it 20 years later... and suddenly, I found it funny. Never saw that coming.

Slightly disappointed that there's nothing on the Blu-Ray but the film and the trailer. I mean, Woody Allen IS still around, right?

I also wish this hadn't gone OUT OF PRINT... as I paid WAYYY too much to get a "brand new" copy. But I'm tired of dealing with other people's disrespect for their toys.

As for Clive Donner... I still don't know what to make of him. He did some genuinely GOOD stuff, like those 2 early episodes of DANGERMAN (one with Patrick Troughton & Robert Shaw). Or the George C. Scott "A CHRISTMAS CAROL". But he also did "THE NUDE BOMB", and "CHARLIE CHAN AND THE CURSE OF THE DRAGON QUEEN" (the single worst CC film ever ever made). And he did the ONLY really bad Peter Ustinov "Hercule Poirot" movie (mainly because Jean Stapleton is in it). There seems to be no middle ground for him, as far as quality goes. The heights, and the DEPTHS.

I just re-read this site's review, and, I totally AGREE about the sound. My el cheapo small widescreen TV has worthless speakers, so since I bought it, I've had my disc player hooked up directly to my stereo system with 12-INCH speakers. And it seems to me, some discs, like this one, I have to crank the volume almost all the way up to hear the dialogue on some discs, and on this particular discs, the description in the review is ABSOLUTELY ON-TARGET.

"sound mix doesn't hit the ears as crisply as desired, offering more of a sludgy sound that's immediately introduced with the title track, which fails to carry much sonic power. Dialogue is understood, with nothing clouded, but precision is lacking, leaving highs sharp and shrill"

No kidding!

This would look very nice on 4k. But until that happens anyone know if the 2019 Eureka release looks any different to the 2014 Kino Lorber release?
