You have numerous options:

1. Enjoy the high-quality A/V of the UK BDs now, and hope for a complete series with extras down the line.

2. Import the BDs from Australia (they got the extras for last season).

3. Import one of the Continental BDs (for the same reason).

4. Make a small investment in a Region A player, and enjoy the US releases.

Personally, with a series where A/V is so important, I'm glad that Studiocanal do give us quality A/V presentations, with high bitrate video. Would I love an extra disc for onus content and commentaries? Sure. But then again, it isn't as though I'm being forced to buy any one release. Region B in particular has multiple releases to choose from (Australia, France, Germany, UK, etc.).

Any ideas if this release will also include a slipbox like season one?

are we even sure those countries will get the extras from the US and where can you order from Australia without getting slammed with customs ?

Everyone should/did have access to the special features (which were done in June). If Studio Canal isn't including them, it has nothing to do with Gaumont or Lionsgate and EVERYTHING to do with SC. We submitted them worldwide.

It was classified by the BBFC on 7th July, the BBFC reckon classification takes around 6-8 days on average. (Presumably that's working days - in the UK Saturday and Sunday aren't considered working days.) So it will have been submitted on or before 27th June. It was submitted in blocks of episodes, so we can assume Studiocanal sent them a final master or close to final master. Which means Studiocanal were probably producing their master as/before the materials became available...

I'm intrigued by the 82 minute documentary, though so I'll probably buy the UK release, then wait for the US set to go cheap and import it...

I wouldn't. If it's true that Studio Canal dumped all the special features (which is 8 commentaries over 7 episodes, the 82 minute documentary on Episode 205, 45 minutes of webisodes with Scott Thompson, 3 other 12 minute featurettes (on the clothing, the prosthetic, and the season 2 overview), deleted scenes, and the full gag reel... why reward them for that? Instead of waiting for a price drop in another region, just skip the UK and put that £20.00 towards getting it from somewhere that is offering the complete package. If you think the SC release is going to look that much better because it's on 4 discs instead of 3... nope. The US release looks superb. Plus, the US region A releases this Tuesday (the 16th) while the UK doesn't release until the 22nd. It's not even like you'll be waiting around for it like season 1.

Now... having said that- Studio Canal's website still lists all of the features, so if they're not included I would definitely go after them. Hopefully they ARE included and the BBFC thing is just an oversight.

I want the Studiocanal version for various stupid and illogical reasons. But I have a lot of other series I haven't got round to watching, so I'm perfectly fine with waiting.

Also, I've been meaning to get the US season one for the producer's cuts, so I'll probably save up and buy them both at the same time (shame the US doesn't do double packs like the UK does)...

The recent improvements on the BBFC website have made researching releases and their extras quite cumbersome (an Advanced Search for Hannibal Season 2 wields no results!), it was a lot better before!

Studiocanal don't neccesarily need to submit most of the bonus features. With the exception of the gag reel, deleted scenes and possibly the commentaries, they'd all be covered under the documentary exemption. And I'm sure Studiocanal don't submit normally commentaries anyway.

Was the submission process changed a few months back? I remember it proposed that all content be submitted (after some nonsense with music-videos). I'd imagine anything that looks into Hannibal's effects would need classifying!

That's fantastic news! I really couldn't understand why they wouldn't have been included considering we went to so much trouble to make sure everyone had access to them (put it this way... we had already delivered season 2 special features at about the same time this year that I was STARTING special features for season 1 last year).

Hope you enjoy. Send me a PM with a link when your review goes live. I'm really anxious to see reviews on this one.

No, the new law comes into force this month, if I remember correctly, but since it's primarily targeted as music videos and other content deliberately marketed as unrated and not 18 rated TV series, I can't see it being an issue...

I'm not sure you'll know, but is there a specific reason why only the US (as far as I'm aware) got the producer's cuts for the first season?

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't the UK get the "producer cuts" as our broadcast versions? Therefore there was nothing extra to add to the blu ray release (except extra features?!)

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the producers cuts on season 1 were the same cuts that everyone else got originally... With stuff that was cut by US censors for broadcast added back in. Is that wrong?
