Don't blame them, really. Carpenter is an absolute legend. Wish Arrow would take note and release his films instead of boring Italian gorefests.

Sweet, now i can sell my old 2-disc DVD and i'm glad i only rented the first BD as the BD kind of sucked.

I hope they do a new transfer supervised by Carpenter himself and all that.

So, so disappointed Shout! used up a licensing fee on getting this. Of course, with MGM too lazy or poor to release their own movies at all, the chances of them rectifying their own mistake and porting the SE content to a Blu-ray was minimal, but still. This is a movie with a perfectly good special edition already, and Shout! needs to be diverting less money to extras and more money to transfers. If they could have dropped EFNY and Mad Max and instead used that to cover new scans for everything they license, that would be way, way, way better.

Hopefully they never attempt to get The Thing.

I'm sure they might do a new 2K scan of the original negative with Carpenter supervising it, it worked for The Fog you know.

If that was in response to me, I don't think EFNY needs a new scan. The existing MGM Blu-ray looks fine, and there's not much room for improvement.

But why? The Thing as a transfer actually has room for improvement.

I know The Fog was color-corrected with Dean Cundey's supervision (which I suspect will take place for EFNY as well), but I don't think Scream Factory ever claimed that:
  • They were creating a new 2K scan.
  • They were utilizing the OCN.
  • That John Carpenter had any involvement with the remastering process.

The only Escape blu right now is featureless, so I feel the opposite: this will be a must own as long as they bother trying.

I've been waiting for this. I hope they have the correct gamma on the transfer and all of the extras from the SE dvd.

Indeed, because it was an HD transfer (and I'm not so sure about the 'new' part) of an IP which was supervised by Dean Cundey.

I've got the MGM BD and the SE DVD, so unless Shout! can impress me (I thought their Fog transfer was mediocre at best) I'll be passing on this, because a slipcover won't be enough to blow my skirt up.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't express how happy I am!! If they give this "The Fog" - treatment I'll be one happy camper. Dean Cundery color correcting the movie. The current blu-ray looks good, but I don't know if the color is correct and the brightness/darkness. Please port over all the previous special features and include some new ones. If they did a new transfer/scan that would be epic. Oh and pleeeease include the original 2.0 audio with the original sound effects and original music. Not a lame downmix. And lossless please. Okay, I am finished... for now lol.

I'm in total agreement, and am just has hopeful!
I really only slept 3 hours last night, after being so excited for this announcement yesterday. I had a feeling it might happen.
I wonder, assuming SF will release this in 2015, it it will be a 35th Anniversary edition? Or can only MGM do that?

Now just need Zavvi to release a steelbook, and then, a few years down the road: a 40th Anniversary digibook!

The movie came out in 1981. 2016 would be its 35th anniversary. God, I hope they announce the release date soon.

Haha. I can't wait to see Shout!'s epic cover artwork. Their Ginger Snaps cover looks amazing.

I've been quite pleased with a lot of their original artwork. So this, being my favorite film of all time, will have me on the edge of my seat.

Would be so epic if they brought back John and Kurt to do new interviews or maybe even a new commentary.
