I just got my review copy, and it is a very, very cool film.

If you enjoy Beatles music, you will enjoy this film. Some music tells a story, and this film exploits that to tell a love story. Sure, there are some tangents which didn't need to be explored, and the film could have easily been shorter. But as it stands, music fans will find this a really enjoyable musical (that's what it is).

Sorry PCM fans, the only audio track is TrueHD. As per usual, its a little quieter than the PCM equivalent, so you'll have to pump up that surround sound.

Video, of course, is clean and sharp. No issues there.

I didn't think this film would affect me as much as it did, which is always a nice surprise when your watching a film for the first time. This isn't just a Beatles greatest hits music video, they recreated every song - keeping the message but tweating the tone to match the story. It is very smart and would be perfect if it didn't take those random tangents.

The way I see it, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is basically TRANSFORMERS for Beatles fans. Plot and characters are only there as clotheslines for what people really want to see, which in this case is kalidescopic visuals set to Beatles songs, which admittedly is better than giant ****ing robots. The whole purpose of the film is more along the lines of just a visual and audio trip, which succeeds admirably. And whatever lacks in plot, the songs more than make up for it. It's a basic history lesson about the 60's, but told through John, Paul, George and Ringo.

It's movies like these that makes me glad I'm a Blu-Ray owner. It's one thing to see car chases, gunfights and explosions in hi-def. It's another to see soldiers carrying the Statue of Liberty across the jungle, underwater dancing and blood red strawberries exploding over Vietnam and hearing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" the way it was originally intended in 1080p and whatever audio specs they have.

It is available in Hongkong now and bought it yesterday. PQ is very good. And it is true that you need to pump the volume up for TrueHD.

You will need to see the extra on how the movie is developed which is quite amazing. They really intrepreted each lyrics of the song and develop it into visual which is for me quite interesting...
