The cinematography was excellent on this film. The plot, to me, was bland and predictable. I was kind of expecting the writers to step it up a notch to match with the level of the cinematography and in my opinion it just didn't happen.
I'll admit that my opinion of the movie is slightly colored by the experience I had in the theater. Between having the back of my seat constantly kicked by some girl behind me and being told to be quiet by the old man next to me after whispering a comment to my girlfriend at the beginning of the movie (let's not mention the fact that he then proceeded to talk through the whole film), it is safe to say that I did not have an enjoyable movie experience for almost $20. Despite this, the story was the main thing that did not impress me about this movie. What do I mean? Skip this if you don't want to be spoiled.... Still there? In my opinion it's the typical anti-Vietnam War/love story. You knew the character who received a draft letter was going to be sent to Vietnam, you knew that he would then return traumatized for life (or five minutes, depending upon the writer), you knew the Brit was going to get back to America and end up with the girl, etc. There were no surprise twists, surprise endings, or really surprises of any sort. It was a typical Hollywood movie with pretty cinematography. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be horribly wrong. I'd recommend renting before buying, personally. |

Wait a sec, this is already out of theaters?? I didn't realize it was IN theaters yet! CRAP! I wanted to see that movie.
If I can find it in a theater, i will go see it this week/weekend, but otherwise it might have to be a blind purchase for me. |

hc, I think the fact that they integrated so many Beatles songs into this movie was the main draw. It was nice, but it wasn't really my cup of tea.
Of course, I enjoyed "The Fountain" quite a bit, so my tea might be a little stranger than others. ![]() |

If this was a straight-up drama, it would be an easy sell to me. I like '60s based films of that type, and who doesn't like a touch of coming of age?
As it stands, I'll give it a rent. It looks interesting for a musical, but hopefully not over the top like Chicago or Sweeney Todd. |
