Why is a newer series like 12 Monkeys getting a blu-ray announcement yet this hasn't?
It probably won't get one until right before season 2 airs.

it will not get one this is a drama not a sci fi, horror, action show which always sell way better on blu ray because blu ray benefits more from such shows with its better PQ and AQ

All of Showtime's recent hour-long shows have gotten Blu-ray releases. Shameless, Masters of Sex, and Ray Donovan aren't the most action-packed shows, but they got released on Blu-ray, and I would be very surprised if this doesn't get a Blu-ray release as well.

Halfway through season 1 and really enjoying this show. Writing is pretty good, they small town setting is pretty engaging. Plus Ruth Wilson, though not the prettiest, is very pleasing to the eyes.

Seems like this may be a DVD only release, so much for buying this on BD. Thought with it being a Showtime show and them releasing pretty much everything on BD I had nothing to worry about as it's an hour long show and not half an hour.

Quote:
THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah (Dominic West) is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison (Ruth Wilson) is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. The provocative drama unfolds when Alison and Noah meet in Montauk at the end of Long Island.

Showtime and Paramount Home Media Distribution have announced that on August 4th they will release The Affair - Season 1 on DVD. This 4-disc set stars Dominic West (The Wire, John Carter), Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr. Banks, The Lone Ranger), Maura Tierney (ER, NewsRadio), and Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek, Fringe). Price is expected to be $39.98 SRP in the USA and CA$46.99 SRP in Canada. Here's a list of the extras that are included:

Tale of Two Costumes
Character Profile: Montauk
Character Profile: Noah
Character Profile: Helen
Character Profile: Alison
Character Profile: Cole
Happyish: Episode 1
Happyish: Episode 2
Ray Donovan S1: Episode 1
Madam Secretary S1: Episode 1

Amazon.com doesn't show a listing yet State-side for The Affair - Season 1, but Amazon.ca has a pre-order entry up for the title north of the border. Here's the button link, and the package art:

That stinks.
Is there a chance they're using "DVD" as an umbrella term?

I just noticed it's being released on dvd next week and here I've been waiting for an announcement of the blu-ray release. This was one of the best new series on television last year. That's a shame it won't be released on blu.

Oh wow! Ghetto. That's embarrassing for the blu-ray format.

"Hey, boss, it's 2015. Should we release this on the current physical HD standard media?"

"No.
Wait, what was the format before this one?"

"It was DVD"

"That one! Yeah, release it on DVD"

Using that logic, in 2002, these same people would have only released the series on VHS

maybe because its just a basic drama. There is no real audience for it on Blu. This is not an action, spy, thriller, scifi, fantasy or horror show. Which are the shows that sell more on Blu.

I guess.
But if they're gonna put it on disc...

I guess my question is, 'why bother at all?'

I like this first season as much as I liked LOST season 1.
I haven't been this excited about a show since Lost.

However, this series could end up like Heroes, where season 1 was strong, but each following season became worse than the previous

While I agree that it's dumb to not release everything on Blu-ray at this point, this isn't the only show Showtime/Paramount chooses to only release on DVD (House of Lies also comes to mind).

Even though I still buy some shows on DVD if I really want to own them and that's the only option (House of Lies again), having watched some of The Affair on Hulu in close to HD, it would be hard to re-watch it again in SD unless it came with some good special features.
