Your description of it reminds me of MAGNOLIA--some good scenes, but a lot of dragged-out material as well.

That scene is a buzzkill by design. The tonal shift is jarring and I think it's one of the most important scenes in the film. I wouldn't cut a second of it.

There are few films that I feel like I need to see another time to fully appreciate. This is one of those films.

Now, that's not to say I didn't enjoy this film. PTA's latest is a fun romp, but the film takes it time get the atmosphere just right (which is pretty much flawless).

Acting wise, everyone was terrific. But, Katherine Waterston and Josh Brolin really steal the show here.

Easily one of, if not THE most important scene in the film. It was beautifully done.

Disagree. Maybe it would have been better if she just hadn't been butt ass naked because there was no reason for that.

I will agree that the acting was top notch though. Everyone was fantastic in their roles.

Saw this at NYFF way back in October and found it insufferable. I think it's by far PTA's worst film. I was so disappointed.
