Well I am not near you but this was posted on AVS today about a store.
Not sure how close that would be for you.

PARon,
I assume you live in PA. by your user name. I purchased my 95FD at a brick and mortar home theater store in Greensburg, PA, 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. The owner gives discounts

what do you guys think of the pioneer elite VSX-94TXH vs the denon 4808ci? the pioneer's MSRP is about 1000$ less and someone said it beats the denon in every aspect. I dont know if thats true or not since I cant find anyone who has the denon 4808ci to listen to. thanks

Ditto. I've owned both Denon and Pioneer Elite and I love the Denon quality and all but there is something about the Elites. For HT they are about the same, but music wise I prefer the musicality of the Elite receivers. There's a bit of warmth that the Denon doesn't possess.

thats kind of what im looking for. With movies I cant really hear the differance. to much going on I guess. But with music espically strong vocals I really want something thats very clear.

how does the denon 5805 compair to the newer models like that pioneer 94txh? I guess im looking more sound wise since this video stuff seems to be changing so fast that in a couple years it looks like I wont be able to use it for video anyway.

For the price of the 5805, I'd look into separates.

My brother and I have an Onkyo TX-SR805 that is very nice. He was lucky and got for only $769 shipped with no tax. We used to have an older Sony and the difference is like night and day. I was watching Pirates Of The Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and Nine Inch Nails:Live Beside You In Time on my PS3 and the PCM audio is jaw dropping.

I guess music quality is the most important thing here, then audio from movies. I'll probbaly skip trying to figure out all this BS around video and run the blu-ray video and xbox right to the tv. the cable box runs through coax or composit anyway. So are these players still the ones to look at? the 905, 94thx and 4xx8ci? or is there a totally diffrent route I should go? The more I look into this stuff and read threads the more I'm totally confused and notbeing able to find any store around that carrys any of this midrange equipment to listen to is even worse.

Hmm, well, if you can actually get the 5805 for the price of the 4308ci, I'd definitely think about that. That would be a great price for a massive receiver. Check out the reviews. Go to www.ecoustics.com and search the model number and see what reviews show up.

If you are getting confused and all, let's put it this way, you won't be going wrong with any of the receivers your looking at. If music is important to you though, I would look into the Pioneer Elite and Marantz receivers.

You'd have to check to make sure it has HDMI inputs and can accept Multi-channel PCM.

Seriously, though, like I said, you can't really go wrong with any of these receivers your looking at. They all will pretty much wow you I think.

Yea its because they are becoming super expensive switches that do a whole bunch of shit you don't need. Consumer home theater audio is sad at the moment.

Use multi-channel pcm if you can and wait it out spend the money on something else.

Sony doesn't do well with audio so it makes sense you had a bad experience. Sony's great with displays and all but when it comes to audio, I'm not a fan. I've owned a Sony ES receiver and it was not a delightful experience.

ok I think I made some discoveries. Here are the important questions I could use answers to today as I have coupons to best buy that expire today.

It seems the best blu-ray player is a playstation 3 as you can suposedily upgrade to profile 2.0 when it comes out? its also the same price as the other players. I hear the samsung 1400 has issues. I can get the panasonic bd30k for the same price as a 40gig ps3. But its not upgradeable and dosent do any audio processing anyway. So does the PS3 sound like the best bet? and if so to watch blu-ray does the 80gig have any advantage over the 40? any advantages worth 100$?

Next I found a place with recivers to listen to. I'm sure they were playing them on there best speakers that make the sound differances even more noticeable. I listed to the elite 94txh. Didnt like it at all. everything sounded muted and dull. Same with the denon 3808ci but it was slightly better maybe. they had an integra 8.8 that sounded much better. sounded like it brought out the vocals but the instramental was still a bit muted. Then I listed to a rotel rsx10675 I think is the number. That sounded awsome. Brought out everything and it was all very crisp and clear. The guy said though that rotels are hard to setup and dont have the latest HDMI and some other features. So I asked him is it the amplifers alone that make the differance in sound and he said yes. So I said what if I paired an integra 9.9 pre amp with a rotel 7.1 amp (rmb1077?) will it sound the same as the rotel reciver unit. He said it would. Do you guys agree and do you think integra pre amps and rotel amps are good or is there something else I should check out. I'm sure dull and muted arnt the right terms for describing what I heard. hopefully you get the picture though
thanks again for everyones input throughout this.

Well, in theory, the Playstation 3 can be upgraded to profile 2.0 because it has wifi which is one of the requirements to 2.0 (web access). It also has the horsepower to support the other profiles so it's just a matter of time. The only advantage the 80 gig has over the 40 gig PS3 is that it has a bigger harddrive, 2 more USB ports, and backwards compatibility of PS2 games. Other than that they are the same.

When it comes to receivers, I have to say it's not really fair to judge them from a showroom. Too many factor's come into play. A receiver could sound crappy in the showroom but amazing in your own room and vice versa. Plus, using the automatic calibration could enhance the sound quality as well.

You could get a Sharp LC-52D92U for $2800, PS3 for $300 - 400, Onyko 805 for $800, Mirage speakers for $1500, and be sitting at a final price of $6,000 including wiring and variables. That'd be a sweet set up at a reasonable price.
