To be honest I had never even heard of it until your post, which is why I called it a bad comparison. I really don't see how a little-known children's film from the man who produced the Teletubbies - I IMDb-ed it - has any relevance to sequels of films in mainstream popular entertainment, or why it has any relevance to your claim on why you know you won't like the new Star Wars installment, etc. You would have even been better off saying "I didn't like the prequels, therefore..." as opposed to bringing up Oogieloves. But if I can find the time and find it on Netflix or some other form of streaming, I'll give it a shot.

There are very few franchises which can have even two quality installments, let alone three, let alone more, and, as far as I know, no superhero would even come close to qualifying. There simply isn't enough depth when you're dealing with adaptations of man-children's toys about (ridiculously) costumed vigilantes who are too pus*y to kill the bad guys. They got lucky with the Cap sub-series, as I noted, but even there, I doubt Cap 3 will be any good. Iron Man as quality film franchised bowed out after 1 installment, there simply wasn't enough depth beyond "man in metal suit fights" to allow for any installments besides the first. Thor probably could've been a good movie, but they apparently hired duds intead of writers, and cast possibly the least likeable lead actor in Hollywood history for the laed. So that sub-series was sunk before it even got off the ground.

Heck, even outside MCU, look at X-Men. One good movie, and then junk. Then a completely seperate sub-series had what amounted to a really great movie (First Class), but then even that had a sequel, and it was bad. Two seperate Batman sub-series have completely fallen apart after the second installment. There's simply too much evidence out there for me to dismiss it as an incredibly coincidence.

So, yeah, my expectations are tempered.
Being optimistic is not an unrealistic expectation. Walking into, say, Ant-Man and expecting it to be the best, or one of the best, comic-book films ever is an unrealistic expectation (given its troubled production history). And I absolutely disagree on every other point of your argument. Age of Ultron is coming three years after The Avengers, giving Joss Whedon plenty of time to write a good script and plan for his direction in this next installment. It's not coming too soon. And there have been plenty of franchises that have had more than two quality installments, some of which I would argue are listed in your quote above. And why do you consider heroes pussies if they don't kill the bad guys? Crime deserves punishment, and I don't see that in death, but that's a whole other political discussion for a different thread.

Looking forward to all of these suckers:
--------------------
Avengers: Age of Ultron: Should be a no-brainer.

Blackhat: I think it looks cool and interesting. I wonder how it'll compare to a movie like Heat.

Furious 7: With the way Furious 6 ended, I have to see this now!

The Hateful Eight: Tarantino + Westerns = a match made in heaven.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2: Bound to have all the excitement that Part 1 was missing.

Inside Out: I hope Pixar will get its groove back. If nothing else though, the movie looks amusing.

Jupiter Ascending: Oh frakk yeah, this looks like my kind of movie. I don't care what haters say, the Watchowskis haven't failed me yet.

Jurassic World: Believe it or not, I do believe this could suck.

Kingsman: The Secret Service: Looks like pure Matthew Vaughn; it should be superb.

Mad Max: Fury Road: Looks brutal and thrilling. Should be a blast.

Mission Impossible 5: Why not? I enjoyed the others, more or less.

Mortdecai: Could be stereotypical and kinda stupid, but it does look charming and funny at the same time.

Seventh Son: Could be generic, but it at least looks like fun.

Spectre (007): I'm a Bond fan. A James Bond fan. I have to see this.

Terminator: Genysis: I'm also a shameless Terminator fan, so this will be a must-see for me too. I can't deny that the trailer looks really cheeky, but so far it looks like the movie itself is saying "f&*k it, let's have some fun."

Tomorrowland: Brad Bird does adventure very well, and this film looks like no exception.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens: Oh no. A lightsaber with a crossguard? My childhood is ruined! This movie will suck!

[Show spoiler]Nah, f*#k the haters, it's going to be great.

You could have just said "most sequels are not as good as the original and the third film in a comic book series is never any good".

Except none of those were made by Quentin Tarantino. Already will make Russell's year better by a large margin.

Man, Diaz really did have a shitty year. Though I did enjoy The Other Woman a bit.

January is always a terrible month. I think it has a chance to be decent this time though. As far as new movies (not counting award season leftovers), Blackhat looks good and Taken 3 may be good. I don't expect much from Mortdecai, but it could surprise me.

Nope. If I won tix, I might go see it (though I'd probably give the tickets to someone who actually cared). But there is no way in hell I'd pay to go see it.

Yeah, I actually liked The Other Woman. It's not great, or anything. But I found it entertaining. Then again, I'll watch pretty much anything with Leslie Mann.

Even if it was some kind of great franchise, I would still be skeptical of this ressurection. But given the previous films, I'll honestly be happy if I leave the theatre not angry.

Ah, well fair enough. It's your choice of course, it's just personally I see no point in seeing a film you're almost guaranteed to dislike.

Mommy is bloody fantastic and I can't recommend it enough, same can be said for '71, which is a lot more of a genre film that I was expecting so it doesn't really have much to really say, but I can imagine a lot of people on the forum really falling for the film, it is terrifically intense.
