Yeah, that's IMDb for you. I chose that one simply because it seems to be one of the few all inclusive lists of 2015 films. Still, there are several films near the top of that list that I'm baffled by.

I agree. Nevertheless, I look forward to another incredible year at the cinema. 2014 has set a high bar.

Films I have some degree of enthusiasm for:

Spectre - another Craig Bond!!

Blackhat - Mann is always solid, but I am extremely skeptical of the talentless hack Chris Hemsworth, hopefully Mann's skillful direction can compensate for his utter lack of charisma or acting skill

Terminator Genisys - I like all these movies, this one should be pretty cool

San Andreas - Rock in disaster movie? Stupid fun ahead!!

Furious 7 - Rock in another FF movie? Stupid fun ahead!!

Wild Card - Statham looks to be regaining top form

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - the trailer was not that bad, and even though Cusack isn't in this, it looks funnier than I would have expected

Focus - Yes, I am somewhat looking forward to the new Will Smith movie. ARMAGEDDON NEARS!!! Honestly, I just love crime movies, this one looks to have an interesting premise, Margot Robbie is spectacular, so hopefully Smith doesn't f*** it up - honestly, this looks to be his best movie ever

Hateful Eight - nuff said

Hitman - as long as the ensure he is a cold-blooded assassin and don't try to humanize him, it should be good

Regression - this looks awesome

The Gunman - crime film? I'm in! Idris Elba? I'd be in anyways.

Demolition - Gyllenhaal's been in beast mode lately, I trust this

Untitled Cold War Spy Thriller - yeah, it's Spielberg who is rocky at best, and Hanks, who definitely is more comfortable in the mediocre-to-horrible range, but I for some reason have faith.

Macbeth - I'd be excited in general for a new Macbeth movie. Putt Michael F***ing Fassbener in it, and I'm downright esctatic

On the other hand, I have little to no enthusiam or hope for

Star Wars 7
Avengers 2
Jupiter Ascending
Mad Max: Fury Road
Tak3n
Jurassic World
Ant Man
Mortdecai
Chappie

Isn't a major selling point of Mad Max that there is a lack of big CGI set piece with the exception of one?

Avengers is a long dead franchise?

And why are they overhyped? You know how they're going to turn out before anybody has seen them?

There's only two I'm interested in so far, as I've read & enjoyed the books: In The Heart Of The Sea & The Martian, which Ridley Scott is filming now, so that's late next year.

My bad. That particular complaint was more directed at the others.

As a source of revenue for Disney, no, not at all. As a source of quality entertainment, then I would say, absolutely. The overall MCU is batting well below .500 and I have no doubt that rushing this second centerpiece will hurt it. I doubt it achieves even the reasonably entertaining standards of the first.

I am pretty sure, based on my own tastes, the previous movies, the trailers and other media information given so far, that I will not like them at all, and they are getting lots of hype. So yes, I would say they are overhyped.

I mean, sure, one can be pedantic and say, "You don't know till you've seen it...." but, come on. It's called using extrapolation, using your brain, and thinking critically. Why did Oogieloves do so poorly? How would people KNOW they wouldn't like it without seeing it? In fact, on the other hand, why did so many people (myself included) see The Avengers instead of Lockout or The Three Stooges? It's almost as if people used their brains and realized that The Avengers would be the movie of those that theyw ould like most, even without seeing all three.

I think I'm looking forward to The Avengers the most.

It'd be nice to see some stateside releases of certain foreign films that were released at Cannes and other festivals last year.

To be fair, I was going to do a big list with all the films I was planning on checking out in the new year, and while doing it I realised that outside of the Oscar stuff that comes out early January here, there's nothing massively impressive coming out.

Outside of the big stuff like Avengers, Mad Max and Star Wars, which pretty much everyone and their mums are looking forward to. For example last year, I knew Calvary, Grand Budapest Hotel, Frank, The Raid 2, Locke, Under the Skin, etc. were coming out within the first half of the year, stuff that sat on the fringes, that gathered interest. This year? There's that robot film with Llewyn Davis, that looks okay...and that's about it. I know Sundance tends to unveil a lot of gems that get quickly ushered out, but this year seems bit washed out of little interesting flicks, seems like Hollywood is dominating this time.

Outside of big-budget films, probably the two that I'm most looking forward to that I've heard of are Knight of Cups and The Revenant. I'm also interested to see how Jane Got a Gun turns out. Hopefully within the first few weeks of the year we'll have a new Michael Mann classic in Blackhat, but the little to no buzz about the film has me a bit worried.

Oogieloves is a bad comparison, man. Talk about an out-of-left field view. If you've already made up your mind about a film without seeing it, that's your business. I just think it's a bad practice.

Well it's apparent you're clearly discounting the same creative team behind the first. You practice negativism, that's cool.

I was thinking about the big budget movies coming out next year and it's going to be a true clash of the titans. You have films like The Force Awakens, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spectre, Jurassic World; several movies that we know could easily pull in over $1 billion worldwide based on their predecessors and the massive hype surrounding them, and then there's the "dark horses" like Mad Max: Fury Road, Ant-Man and Terminator: Genisys. It'll be very interesting to see how they all do while "competing" with each other.

No, it's in fact a great comparison. Did you see Oogieloves, or did you make up your mind without actually seeing it? If you didn't see, then you, too, are guilty of bad practice.

I practice realism, and it is indeed cool. Avoiding unrealistic expectations leads to fewer unncessary disappointments. And, yes, I will discount the same creative team behind the first. This is coming too soon, and there are too many movies in this franchise (and meta-franchise) already. There are very few franchises which can have even two quality installments, let alone three, let alone more, and, as far as I know, no superhero would even come close to qualifying. There simply isn't enough depth when you're dealing with adaptations of man-children's toys about (ridiculously) costumed vigilantes who are too pus*y to kill the bad guys. They got lucky with the Cap sub-series, as I noted, but even there, I doubt Cap 3 will be any good. Iron Man as quality film franchised bowed out after 1 installment, there simply wasn't enough depth beyond "man in metal suit fights" to allow for any installments besides the first. Thor probably could've been a good movie, but they apparently hired duds intead of writers, and cast possibly the least likeable lead actor in Hollywood history for the laed. So that sub-series was sunk before it even got off the ground.

Heck, even outside MCU, look at X-Men. One good movie, and then junk. Then a completely seperate sub-series had what amounted to a really great movie (First Class), but then even that had a sequel, and it was bad. Two seperate Batman sub-series have completely fallen apart after the second installment. There's simply too much evidence out there for me to dismiss it as an incredibly coincidence.

So, yeah, my expectations are tempered.
