Unless it's a steelbook, special edition, or collectors edition, I don't usually buy movies on release day. I can wait until it drops in price. Remember, slipcovers are part of the package, and I don't see anything wrong buying a movie with the slipcover.

Oh, that's a good point. For me it's the opposite, my wife works nights so I barely ever make it to the theater. So a $20 blind-buy instead of a $30 theater trip is actually a money saver, and I own the movie permanently.

For people like me, who have been collecting movies & such for so long, you know how to maximize your spending in order to gain a large collection. So what I'm trying to say is, I buy movies day 1 because that's when they have the most value - I sell the DVD & UV copies they come with so I NEVER spend more than $5-$10 on any new release.
![]() Not to mention most of the time I spend $0 on them since I usually (about 90% of the time) have gift cards to either Target or Best Buy from using shopkick. ![]() |

I have learned NOT to buy anything on Day 1 - not even movies I really liked - unless it's a limited edition or a steelbook. See, I really enjoyed Gone Girl and wanted to see it as soon as possible, I was going to pay $19.99 but decided to wait a bit and snagged a copy for $14.99.

I think it really depends on the movie and the packaging. If it's a great movie that I like, I don't mind paying $20 the first day it comes out. I normally buy those that are limited editions, steelbooks or movies that I really like that I have watched at the movies or really want to watch. When I first started collecting blu's, I would make that mistake of buying anything the first day but as the years go by I've learned to wait and also, prices for blu's are dropping faster than they did in the past.

I respect and can appreciate those of you who buy "day 1". I don't. I do not mind waiting a year or more if I can pick up a movie for 6 or 7 or 8 dollars. Of course there are some exceptions. As previously mentioned, Disney animated films do not drop much in price and often it is best to purchase these films when they are first released. Then there is Twilight Blu-rays which are usually the same price forever. That is also an exception. I used to buy movies on release day, but after seeing something for 7.88 that I paid 20.00 for... Ugh! Spend less on Blu-rays=Own more Blu-rays. That's my two cents worth which is actually about all it's worth.

After too many wasted trips to Best Buy to get movies and the selection is crap I decided to just order from Amazon. With prime the shipping is free, I don't have to fight traffic after a long day at work and when I get home on Tuesday evenings my movies are sitting there waiting for me. I may pay a little more but the savings in fuel and frustration are worth it for me.

![]() Since I started kicking over the summer, everything at Best Buy has been at least highly discounted. I just wish they had a better selection. After selling digital codes, I'm paid to own some new stuff! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

ive held back from buying day 1 unless its an exclusive like a steelbook, slipcover or bonus content that is bound to sell out by the time it gets around to being on sale
but if i do buy a regular release on day 1 i keep my receipt for 30 days, and if it drops in price i do a return rebuy |

I'll only go to a real Imax theater if I actually go to a movie. I prefer Blu-rays over all theaters, except real Imax ones. Blu-rays are my vice and my hobby. I don't drink (well, rarely ever), don't smoke, & don't use drugs, so I have a lot of disposable income that I use toward my Blu-ray addiction. So "Day 1" is the norm for me. I have a lot of respect for those that have patience enough to wait for deals, but nothing cracks me up more than the members that post things like, "So glad I waited" when they save $5-$10 a year after a release date! ![]() |

Many of the reasons listed thus far are true of my Day One purchasing habits, too (slipcovers and limited editions being at the top of the list), but there's another that compels me that I haven't seen mentioned yet. It may seem pollyanna-ish or naive of me but with the lamentable evidence of physical media's death throes mounting every week, I feel that, by purchasing Blu-rays the moment they come out, I'm sending the studios a critical message that we aficionados of physical media and premium product are still out here, and we're both hungry and thankful for their continued efforts to cater to us. If I'm lackadaisical about making purchases, I can't really fault studios for being lackadaisical about releasing product.

I only wait for pricedrops with blockbusters. That usually pays of.
Most of the movies I buy are for a smaller audience and they usually do not drop in price or only a little bit after months. So i usually buy them the same month they're released. Also I do not wish too wait because there is a chance they will go OOP in a year or so. |

Not trying to start a war here but I think it should probably be pointed out that refusing to buy a movie for more than $5-10 is probably contributing to the death of physical media.
