You are a arsenal fan too nice one, i don't expect anything against United even the way they are playing at the moment because we fear going to old trafford and our record there is poor.

Apologies.
It was a rhetorical question as I suspected the guy I was replying to wasn't aware of the situation.

It's one of the top tier Hammer films. Cushing is one of the best actors ever to play Holmes and it takes repeated veiwings to catch all the little nuances he brings to the character. The only real negative is the rather unconvincing "Hound."

Frightfest screened a DCP from an HD remaster several years ago. I would imagine this is from that version. It looked great on the big screen. Mark Gatiss did a great intro and given that this was several years before his version of the character, oddly fitting.

Because ITV have abandoned BD for back catalogue TV in the UK and it seems won't licence what they consider one of their "premium" programmes to Network who get to release the DVDs of stuff ITV can't be bothered to release themselves.

This has been debated a lot in these forums over the years but the short answer is ITV started with Sharpe boxset but sales at full price were not what ITV hoped for. It seems they are happy to allow local companies to release their programmes in US, Spain, Germany etc but not themselves in the UK. One reason may be in the UK they have to pay a bigger share to the cast and crew whereas any payments on overseas sales are much lower. Therefore they can allow overseas sales at a lower price with local companies and still make a bigger profit than they think they will make in the UK.

If you want the Brett Sherlock Holmes just buy the Spanish disks. These are cheapest, look great (are a bit more compressed than the US and Japan releases as use fewer disks but you won't notice unless you have a massive screen) and have removable Spanish subtitles. Remember to turn off as they default as on (no English subtitles though).

So in your opinion, the Spanish ones are the way to go, i was debating which ones to get, but you have swayed me, thanks.

They look great, and are the cheapest. The U.S. set is slightly better being less compressed and has a few commentaries but is 3 times the price and a customs charge risk.

Don't MGM own The Quatermass Experiment? There is an MGM logo on the Aussie Blu-Ray, and if Arrow could release it with the US extras I'm sure it would be a big seller

Michael can probably say for certain but I don't think MGM own that movie in the UK.
It was released by DD here on dvd.
Ownership of Hammer movies can change between countries specially the early ones.

From Curse of Frankenstein , possibly earlier , finance came from the US studios who then took ownership of those films. After Quatermass put them on the map they made deals with several Hollywood companies which is why rights are all over the place

It's definitely not MGM in the UK, so that means it's probably Lionsgate or Studio Canal who have both released other Hanmer titles in the UK, but now seem to have lost interest. Probably not helped by all the faults and hence massive backlash and complaints online.

Thats a good point. There was alot of bickering about a number of their titles on BD whether it eas the transfer on Frankenstein or the framing on Dracula or the LPCM soundtrack on Rasputin. I was just happy as a Hammer fan to see these on Blu ray and being thankful of 1080p transfers over the interlaced releases put out in different countries.
