I still never picked up the MGM Blu of this. Is it true the Blu only has the uncut version and not both the uncut and R versions that the DVD version had? Not a huge issue as most people want the uncut version anyway, but I always preferred the R version myself (the shower scene in the uncut version goes on way too long that it becomes absurd, and some of the practical wound special effects in the elevator scene are so fake looking that it works better in the R where you don't see them). I doubt Criterion would bother including the R version, either, but you never know. In any event, love this film, so need to get off my butt and finally pick up the MGM Blu regardless of what it offers, and also look forward to Criterion's take on it.

Don't know about MGM. Arrow has both.

Yes. I have the MGM Blu-ray. It only contains the 105 minute uncut version of the film.

The major advantage of the Arrow over the MGM disc is that the Arrow has the original mono soundtrack as well as the 5.1 remix. (The latter is surprisingly decent, as these things go, but it's not what played in cinemas originally).

I'm also guessing that the fact that Criterion is shooting their own Nancy Allen interview means that they won't be licensing the lengthy interviews with her, Angie Dickinson, Keith Gordon and producer George Litto that were shot by Robert Fischer for the Arrow and Carlotta releases. Although it will be interesting to see if there's any direct input from Brian De Palma himself.
They should get Noah Baumbach to interview him again. That was a great interview on the Blow Out Blu-ray.

Oh, so that is the "Nausicaa" clue eventually!
I wonder how many clues still have to be indentified with..

It would be cool if Criterion did one of those things where they release a couple of movies from the same director in one month and release this and a blu ray upgrade to their disc for Sisters at the same time.

Yeah, the Arrow release is pretty tight...great transfer, excellent special features. Granted, the 5.1 soundtrack has a line from the R-rated theatrical cut (where Nancy Allen is referring to the "bulge" in Michael Caine's pants), but the unrated cut line is preserved on the original mono track. And it has the great 45-minute documentary from the 2001 DVD and the MGM Blu as well. I wish Criterion or another label would concentrate of giving us some new-to-Blu De Palma titles like Casualties Of War, Raising Cain (especially if De Palma's original cut could be presented) and Femme Fatale instead of re-hashing perfectly adequate releases.

I am hoping that we finally get the original opening credit logo for Dressed to Kill. Criterion's edition of Blow Out contains the original Filmways Intro Logo and it is bada**.

Cool. Kinda wish it was Hi, Mom if they were doing another De Palma though.

I would've preferred they got CARRIE as the film desperately needs a true restoration and, apparently, it seems Criterion are the only ones willing to undertake one - assuming, that is, that they're coming up with a new HD scan for DTK. To be honest, I don't see a reason to double dip unless there will be a new master. I even like the artwork that MGM chose for the BD cover. One of the few (maybe the only) instance(s) where the studio has given a home video release something resembling original theatrical art.

I agree! I remember seeing it theatrically and on HBO in 1981~ For some reason it always stuck with me!

I have always wanted to see this movie and never have. I'll wait for the Criterion comparisons with the MGM release.

I agree that those three movies you mentioned need to be out on blu-ray, but I am happy to see another De Palma movie make it into the Criterion Collection. All the features on the current MGM Dressed to Kill blu-ray are from almost 15 years ago, so it would be nice to see something new especially since they did such a nice job with the extras on Blow Out.

And how about "Obsession" and "Body Double?" I would have to place "Obsession" among my favorite DePalma films. I don't know if this is heresy, but I hope Criterion preserves the iconic poster art.
