I only just started getting into Blu-rays and I'm on a limited budget - so I'm focusing on the genres I feel need my meager financial support the most. This means silent movies and Italian 70s horror/giallo, sprinkled with some exploitation, the odd Criterion title and Peter Greenaway.

I wouldn't mind having some comedies. I actually don't even have any, aside from a couple that are mixed with other genres. Most of my Blus are action/adventure, science fiction and horror.
I don't have any animated films, either. Could use some of those. |

Probably anime, I don't have a single title yet I used to enjoy them quite a bit. I'll probably start with upgrading the Vampire Hunter D titles since they're a couple of my favorite ones, fortunately they're both coming out later this year.

Italian Sword-and-Sandal/Peplum/"Hercules" films, in their original aspect ratios.
Also, 1960's low budget B&W forgotten genre films, such as: WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR ANGELS FLIGHT (aka SHOCK HILL) THE GLASS CAGE LIGHT FANTASTIC THE DESERT RAVEN RUN ACROSS THE RIVER PRIVATE PROPERTY (1960) RAT FINK THE STREET IS MY BEAT NOT MY DAUGHTER/ LIKE IT IS (1970) and others of that ilk Last edited by Jobla; 04-24-2015 at 10:57 PM. |

Hate to be THAT GUY, but my collection is already so well rounded, I am not wanting for any particular genres. I'll gladly add to any and all of them, but having no limitations when it comes to appreciating film and film history means a very comprehensive library.

Early '90s Hong Kong movies...all the wuxia fantasies, comedies and dramas that brought said cinema to international attention. BD releases even in HK itself have been slow to appear, and here in the US they've been pretty awful in quality. No uncut Fong Sai-Yuk or Fist of Legend yet? No Green Snake, Swordsman 2, Boys Are Easy, or '92 Legendary la Rose Noir at all? It's like an entire era vanished into nothing..

I think my collection is also lacking comedy, though I have tried to get the most I know that are available.

Comedy is tricky. I've found that a lot of comedies I enjoyed growing up in the 90s haven't aged well and aren't as funny to me as they used to be. And I'm generalizing, but many of the popular comedies today don't really contain the cinematic appeal that makes home media worthwhile.
My movie collecting habits have recently changed, and I don't necessarily purchase a BD simply because I like the film. I consider whether or not it's realistic that I'll pop that disc in my player several times. As far as newer comedy stuff goes, I'm usually content with watching via On Demand or streaming service. |
