...being that Canadians are crossing the border to shop in U.S., and US Strippers are crossing the border to strip in Canada, I'd say that's an indication that The Loony is actually worth MORE than the $$$ for the first time in a long while. So hey if you like the Quad maybe buy here in US?

EDIT: most days, this is actually true. I just thought i'd throw out some humorous anectdotes I heard that resulted from this shift in currency valuation.

I agree with Downhere. Energy is great and reasonably priced for a higher-end speaker. RC series or Veritas will kick nicely with the 805.

I just received a Flyer from futureshop.ca, you'll get 20% on every speakers from 17h 9dec to 12h 10 dec.

http://www.futureshop.ca/marketing/f...gon=&langid=FR

I would suggest the polk audio towers: 900$
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0090951&catid=

with the energy subwoofer 400$
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0087364&catid=

With the polk center 500$ + 20% rebate = 400$
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0090940&catid=

With the polk surround 350$
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0090959&catid=

I don't know how much the 20% will aply on the already cut price speakers..
What do you think?

Oh and I forgot, you could go an energy set, they are awesome but will cost you more overall if you get the hi-end reference connoiseur (RC-70) for 1400$ and the center is 750$ I think..

Well, just to update everyone on the situation. I visited the "Hi-Fi Centre" here in Vancouver this afternoon and sampled a bunch of systems in my price range. And the best, by far, was the B&W (Bower & Wilkins) Mini Theatre series (MT-20). It would have come to $2100 + tax, but I told the salesman my budget and he dropped it to $1900 + tax. So, I couldn't resist.

Thank you all for your suggestions though. I appreciate it. I believe that of all the 20 brands that I sampled, these were what will suit me best.

Also, very interested in what speaker suggestions you end up going with. Let me know if they sound good with the Onkyo system.
I don't know which province you are residing. In BC, you can the Onkyo receivers at London Drugs. I would recommend to look at Paradigm also. They are very good speakers.

I picked up some Paradigm monitors (and some smaller rears) w/ a 10" sub for about $1K. That was over 7 years ago, and they still sound fantastic. I would not hesitate to buy this brand again.

Nice deal on the B&W speakers. Personally, B&W have been, in my opinion, the best speakers out there to date. Some complain that they are a bit sharp but I think they're the most precise when it comes to setting the sound stage. Congratulations on your new setup. ^^b
