Ya just got this notification today. This was pretty creepy when I saw it as a kid in the 70s. Watched it again about a month ago and was surprised and how well it has held up for having such a low budget. Very creative and nice little niche zombie flick for having been made on a shoestring. Makeup was pretty effective as well.

Is this worth a blind buy? I keep hearing lots about the movie but have never seen it.

The first 40 minutes, if I recall were tame but once the Zombies came out and played it was good.
Keep in mind this is a VCI blu ray and I wouldnt expect anything more or less than any of their other releases unless they got new equipment !

strange film indeed... three quarters of it are borderline awful... obnoxious characters blabbing away and acting stupid-- then the zombies rise and it has a hell of a final act.... this is a movie that I could see a lot of people turning off and missing some cool stuff at the end....

This movie reminds me of my one older brother. He and his friends sat up one night for a Halloween movie-thon and CSPWDT was the last one. He said it scared the crap out of them. Years later, I got a copy on vhs and didn't like it at all. I've never watched it again. I may purchase a copy for the nostalgia. Maybe.

I spent over twenty years trying to find the title of this movie, because I had seen it as a child and all I could remember was how it began (a group of people arrive on a boat to an island) and how it ended (a group of zombies, having killed all the people, get on the boat and drift away from the island)! I will definitely be buying this on day one and look forward to watching it again!

Probably should put some spoiler tags on this.

Great news, hoping for a nice scan and transfer of good elements and a nice encode. Not sure why Dark Night of the Scarecrow used VC-1 but subsequent releases are MPEG-2 (though still well encoded).

Ok, it cant be a coincidence that all 3 films recently played at the "DRIVE-IN MASSACRE 2015" event.

http://www.theskylinedrivein.com/
  • Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
  • City of the Dead (aka Horror Hotel)
  • Ruby

Did VCI host this event?

I don't have the Blu-ray of it yet, but their release of The Prowler (1951) got good reviews as well.

My favorite Zombie movie of all time!!!

I just hope they can get better film elements for the bluray.... any word?

The DVD is pretty bad... great commentary on it though!!

They should include both the uncut version & the shorter TV cut...

This was a staple in classic TV late night horror back in the 70s & 80s!!

Saw this as a kid and it gave me nightmares for weeks... the MUSIC in this
& the ending with ORVILLE are still SUPER creepy!!

So many people rag on Alan Ormsby's performance but I thought he was awesome in this!!!!

I love how obnoxious he is... it makes the movie!!

I wished he had gone on to act in other movies after this one!!

The great thing about this movie is the zombies are years ahead of there time. This came out after NOTLD but before Dawn/Day etc. For 1972 they sure look like 80s zombies. The first half is slow but once the undead awake its some of the best zombie scenes ever.

Yeah the Zombie makeup is excellent in this!!

Alan Ormsby did all the make up
for this & also did the Zombie make up in Shock Waves
and if I recall correctly... watch Porky's 2 you see one of the
characters gets buried in a grave yard in pretty much the same Zombie makeup as a little nod to CSPWDT... cool stuff!

I hope that "Children" is done well, but I'm thrilled that City of the Dead, aka Horror Hotel is making its way to BD.
Both titles are for me.

I just hope that VCI upgrades to using AVC encodes this time, instead of the MPEG-2 encodes they've used on their last few Blu-ray releases.

They finally got the artwork right for this film. Well, at least it's better than everything that came before. Not holding out too much hope it'll actually be a worthwhile upgrade, though. Being as VCI rarely acquires new titles, I wonder why they can't seem to be bothered to invest some money in producing good master/transfers

FANTASTIC news...one of my favourite domestic zombie flicks.

Alan Ormsby is priceless (in this).
